It’s been a while since I shopped at Aldi. They have a limited selection, though they’re great for some things. I should give them another try sometime. My dad shopped at one a lot when I was a kid.
I’ve shopped several times at Lidl, but not at Aldi. That was in Essex. The quality of the products was very variable. Minus points-being stuck behind several people with full up trolleys, very small packing area .
Before I was dieting I used to wait for the prices of stuff like canned soup or chili or canned fruit or tuna or spaghettio’s or raviolis to come down to a dollar. It might only happen once every three weeks or once a month and then I’d buy few to stock up on. But the dollar stores near my apartment carry all those things. I discovered this months ago but ironically none of those are on my diet except the tuna.
Aldi has good prices, but they treat their employees like crap here.
Stuff like timing their bathroom visits and deducting it from their breaks and pay
I have an Aldi’s about one mile from where I live (in the mid-Atlantic region of the USA). I went yesterday and found everything I wanted and the prices were about 20 or more % lower than other grocery stores. I may decide to go there more often. It’s nice to find a store I can believe in.
There’s a chain out here in Canada called Giant Tiger. Their stores all have a grocery section, but most of the food in there is the pre-made, processed crap that is poison. Their prices on fresh meat, veg, and fruit aren’t really any better than you can find at a standard Loblaws store and definitely higher than at Wholesale Club (Loblaws bulk outlet). The best deals at Giant Tiger are all on high sodium, high fat garbage. Would be nice to find a place that consistently sells affordable fresh veg and fruit.
We have Dollar Generals all over here. I love it. Good place to get some really good buys here and there. Never been to Aldi’s. If they let me keep the cart at 25¢ a pop I’d consider going there.
