Disability momey

Why don’t you get Medicaid? Do you need a lot of dental work done or something?

They discontinued my medicaid when I got disability and medicare. I don’t completely understand why but they did.

Not anymore I don’t but I had some teeth pulled (prices vary on teeth pulling by difficulty and whether or not you have to go to a specialist like I did for one) and I have the standard cleaning.

Just from managing money for years and years I see how things go. People move, people die, pandemics arrive, medical bills crop up, eligibility changes, etc. When you don’t have a lot of money in the first place, an unforeseen event like a medical bill or dental bill can wipe out your savings. Worst case scenario: you lose your benefits. Maybe (maybe) you go in the hospital and somehow lose your benefits. Maybe you’re forced to move out and your new rent is $700. Maybe you become ineligible for benefits for some unforeseen reason.

There’s nothing to panic about at all, I’m just saying things change. I was told I could earn up to $1100 a month and collect SSDI forever. Well, five years later they reviewed me and I was in danger of losing my benefits.

All I’m saying is there’s a chance you may get that $700 forever. But you really never know.

So now you don’t have many dental expenses anymore correct, since you already had the work done? Besides the standard cleaning which is twice a year?

How much do you receive, if you don’t mind sharing? Do you pay rent?

Don’t know where your from but most government have some kind of tax protected disability savings plan…max it out and any other exempt assets, a car, a house etc. If you have more than like 40 grand in the bank in canada they kick you off disability till its gone. Your service worker should be advising you on this its part of the job.

Not until it’s gone, its until it drops below the maximum.

Quite frankly no. How old are you out of interest?

When i was 18 I thought a few hundred pounds a month was too much and I felt guilty. But as I got older and have to pay for my own clothes, trips out, travel, subscription bills, instrument maintenance, meals etc etc - I can easily get through my benefits if I am careless.
Also bare in mind that you can do anything you want with this money. Just accept it as yours. If you want to donate to charity with it - you can. If you want to get driving lessons - again you can. If I were you and I was in a position where I didn’t know how to spend it - I would look at investing in skills for myself. Do a cooking course, music lessons, personal trainer etc.
