So I got an extra $74.10 other than my usual direct deposit and yes my direct deposit was larger, that was no surprise to me and doesn’t have me worried but this extra $74.10 does… Why did I get it? Can I spend it? Will it be taken back out? Idk what to do and was wondering if anyone else had any clue why I got it…
No, I didn’t get that. It might be a back check for a past underpayment. I woke up one morning ten years ago and checked my bank account online and found that there was a $12,000 deposit into my checking account and I didn’t know why I got it or where it came from. Turns out SSDI had underpaid me for a couple years. Two years later it was the same thing with an $11,000 deposit. I called them up and not only could I spend it anytime I wanted but they still kept giving me my monthly check!
Give them a call to make sure it’s not a mistake and to find out why you got it. If it’s a mistake and you spend it you may have to pay it back.
Their national phone number is: 800-772-1213
That must have been a nice morning with a windfall of $12K!
You can spend it. It’s the pay increase for Social Security. 5.9% increase.
You’ll get it every month.
@Jonathan2 @eighteyedspy23 @77nick77 thanks y’all! I’ll probably give them a call!
I didn’t but I hope you get to keep it. I’m glad you’re going to call first.
Yes, I got mine. I would think you would’ve received a letter in the mail explaining your increase. Maybe it is late. I got one.
I’m not sure I understand @Twialine. Did you get one deposit that is $74 higher than usual? That most likely is due to the annual COLA. Or did you get your monthly deposit with the 5.9% raise plus a separate deposit for $74?
As of 2022 - 5.9% of what you normally get for cost of living increase every month.
