Did any of you find nursery rhymes silly in their lack of realism?

I mean really three men in a tub, a cow over the moon, down will come baby cradle and all.My favorite one and the most realistic was about robin red breast who would stay in the barn and keep himself warm.

The only one I remember is twinkle twinkle little star and that one is awesome. Maybe it’s not even a nursery rhyme but a nursery song.

Yes that one is ok. Do you remember Mary had a little lamb?

I remember it vaguely but not the lyrics :frowning:

Was it bad?

I quit remembering after the lamb followed her to school one day. lol

They’re for kids. That’s what kids understand. If you’re putting your kids to bed at night you don’t read them Kafka or Mein Kampf.

Well, I had “Don’t lie.” drummed into my head and all the stories about things that couldn’t be were giving me a headache.

idk. humpty dumpty makes a lot more sense since i’ve been sz.

I thought most bedtime rhymes were beneath my dignity, but I did love some nursery stories, like Hansel and Gretel, and there was one about these three giant dogs that were guarding some kind of fortune, and this guy, I think he was a soldier, figured out how to get past the giant dogs. There were several other nursery stories I liked a lot. I did like some kind of nursery rhyme about these monkeys and ants. I liked The Ugly Duckling. That was a long, long time ago.
