Diazepam don't do anything if your not anxious?

People who get addicted to them must have bad anxiety and they continue taking them to feel normal and get addicted? When I take 5mg I don’t feel anything and I’m not generally a anxious person they don’t so anything apart from make me sleepy.

I’ve never taken diazepam but Xanax and Tranxene (chlorazepam).

Maybe @Joker knows more

Here they call it Valium btw.

It’s confusing the number of names I have to remember of meds.

Valium and diazepam are the same thing. Diazepam is the British wording for them. Benzodiazepines.

Twenty years ago I was given Valium to relax for lasik eye surgery. It was as if I took nothing at all. I did not feel relaxed at all. Because it did nothing for me, it’s hard to imagine getting addicted to it

I think with benzodiazepines it depends on the dose. My doctor gave me 5 mg of Tranxene (chlorazepam) and I felt nothing, but when I was in hospital they gave me 50 mg. That I felt!

Lol! Ok, I got it.

I once took 27 - 2mg lorazepam tables and I couldn’t get out my seat I felt so heavy. Didn’t help my bad depression and anxiety though. I got sectioned for doing that,

I started on 2mg, and built up tolerance and ended up on 30mg a day for a couple of years… Took months to reduce it down to 5mg

Has no therapeutic benefit, and this was lost very quickly. I agree that GP’s don’t like it, but they should give a full 3-4 week course to those in crisis

Meds I take don’t make me sleepy

For 3 years I have been on Pregabalin, but that was supposed to replace the Diazepam, but never any follow up on that as a Locum put me on it

When I’m going through a MH crisis my pdoc gives me the option of either diazepam or haloperidol tablets.

For me it’s clozapine (leponex) when I go through a MH crisis. The sedation helps.

I thought clozapine was the last line of defence for MH?

They can only give it to you when you have tried several typical and atypical ap’s. But reading on this forum most of us fall into that category.

When I had Haloperidol in a similar situation it was a sledgehammer

Diazepam like you say has little effect

I was on 5mg twice daily haloperidol daily and this really helped me.

@Jonathan2 - Apart from the Haloperidol tablets I haven’t been on typical antipsychotics. My injection is atypical.

You could always try clozapine, but there is a lot of bloodwork in the beginning. I also can’t take the regular dose anymore because it caused tachycardia. My heart rate was over 120 at rest.

I’m hoping that I don’t need it. I have gone through alot of antipsychotics and next will be typical ones as I’ve tired all the atypical. at the moment I’m on maximum of Invega .

Me too. I take 12 mg of Invega tablets daily. As long as I’m without stress I’m fine but I want to try to go back to work and that might stir the jar.

Hopefully you will find a stress free job @Jonathan2 . They are out there

I;m on 150mg Invega depot 4/weekly. My pdoc says this is the maximum dose, but I don’t believe him as I’m sure I’ve read people higher on here with bigger doses.
