Day 3 of 3.75mg Olanzapine

I’m now on day 3 of 3.75mg Olanzapine. I wouldn’t say I’m feeling better but am feeling more emotional about the loss of my family. Also feeling slightly anxious or what feels like a tense charged feeling.

My brain also feels a little bit fuzzy which I think is a withdrawal from the higher dose of Olanzapine.

Overall we’ll just have to see how this goes, I’ll consider going back up tomorrow if I still feel tense. Don’t feel weird like psychosis though!

Good luck with the smaller dose! Just pay attention though…
I am on 10 mgs myself and ive tried to lower it on 7,5 mgs and i got more anxious too only even psychologically… My zyprexa didnt give me a life, but i would be even worse without it…
Me too, i get more emotional and energetic on less, but i had to make the peace with the 10 mgs…
Take care!

Going below 5mg usually causes problems for people. I tried it a couple of times, but had to go back up because of poor sleep and feeling lightheaded and restless.

I wouldn’t be able to do 5mg if I wasn’t supplementing. Some key supplements are: Magnesium, melatonin and acetyl-serine for sleep, taken with fish oil or coconut oil, to help absorption. Also you will want to take b-vitamins and d-vitamin.

I do five very easily and sleep well but not to much. The only downside is I feel slightly flat emotionally.

I’m starting to wonder if I’m setting myself up for some problems.

I have found it more difficult to sleep at night since decreasing the dose.

Do you think I’m playing with fire? I just want to feel like I’m winning against this illness and actually getting better.

Insomnia issues are typical when dose gets below 5mg, even when supplementing.

If you are unhappy with the medication you could try something else. For example I think quetiapine is considered a lighter drug than olanzapine. It only works on 10 or 7 receptors, don’t quite remember, while olanzapine works on 17 receptors. It’s also good on sleep so the transition shouldn’t be hard. I tried it, but it wasn’t for me, maybe you have better luck.

I wouldn’t exactly say you are playing with fire, but you need to be careful. If you find sleep becomes a problem it might impair you more than if you were taking 5mg.

I guess I just need to know if I’ll ever be free of these drugs. It doesn’t help that there’s no plan for how long I should be on them.

I got absolutely no guidance from doctors about the medication. The only thing they checked is that I didn’t get serious side effects and that my dose was high enough. Credit to my current doctor though for getting me back on olanzapine when I tried to get off because I hadn’t slept properly for 3 years because I was on 2.5mg. I had to switch doctor to find someone who understood what was going on. The doctor I had before didn’t help me, I don’t think he trusted me either. That’s why I changed doctor.

You have to take the helm yourself if you want a change to be made I think. I would discuss the medication with your doctor, maybe ask their advice if there is another med that could be better. Also if you have your own ideas about things that you might want to try you should mention that as well.

What I really want is a solution to get off medication and have a happy and normal life. But it’s not as easy as that, there seems to be no end or solution in sight.

I was hoping that on a low dose it would almost be like being of medication and also show me that I can make it without medication

If you remain stable on 5mg there is defintly a chance to get off medication. My doctor said after 6months of stability we could consider going off medicine, or at least switch to another medicine that is less poweful and maybe get off that one instead.

Keep your hopes up even though things take time.

Thank you for that it’s exactly what I needed to hear. I’ve been stable on 5mg for six months now. Just a little bit of hope is what we need to keep on going sometime’s it can make such a massive difference.

I keep forgetting that Olanzapine is so strong and that there may be other options. I actually feel relatively okay on it …. I think I’ll give this lower dose a chance to settle and see where it takes me.
