When dad got covid (over a year ago) his heart rate shot up to like 120bpm and has stayed there ever since.
He has congenital heart disease (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). Having a constantly high pulse rate is bad news.
In a normal person they would do a thing called cardioversion where the heart is electrically shocked to kinda stun it. Usually the heart starts to beat normal after that.
But dads structural heart disease contraindicates this - they can’t guarantee the shocked heart would start again.
As a result he is now on heroic dosages of beta blockers to try and put the brakes on his heart.
Anyway today he got up to go in the other room and all of a sudden he said he couldn’t move his legs. He was stood up but was pretty panicked.
I bore his weight and helped him the 6 feet back to the sofa. It was heartbreaking. He has aged so fast post covid
They didn’t offer him catheter ablation as an option? The worst outcome is usually that you may need a pacemaker if your nerve tissue is too damaged by the procedure.
