Credit card woes

I bought some stuff from Best Buy last year including my phone. I put it on my Best Buy Visa card and the deal was that I would pay 0% interest for a year but if I didn’t pay off the balance by this August 28th I would have to pay the entire preceding years worth of interest.

Well, I have a thousand dollars on the card so at the end of June I applied for another credit card and the plan was to do a balance transfer of the $1000 to the new card. I looked up the best balance transfer card on Credit Karma which was a Capital One card and I applied and I got approved. But I discovered I had to wait 11 days after getting approved to be eligible for a balance transfer offer.

After 11 days, I made the transfer and it shows it went through on July 1st. But I check my Best Buy account every day and the balance is still there. I’m getting worried that there’s a glitch and something went wrong with the transfer and it won’t go through before August 28th which will put me on the hook for a years worth of retroactive interest payments on my Best Buy Visa card.

I’ve called Capital One several times and the lady on the phone told me I should file a “missing payment claim”. I told her I will wait a few more days before doing that. It’s cutting it close, if I have to make a new balance transfer it needs to be done so it takes effect before the end of August. I don’t need this aggravation.

If there is a record of the transfer you shouldn’t need a new transfer. You just need them to acknowledge it. Talk to a person on a help line and get them to tell you what to do.

You will be okay, Nick.

It usually takes 14 days, so it should post on Best Buy by 7/15/24. You can look into it now: Go to Best Buy website, sign in, scroll down, click support and services, click contact us, click my account, click chat.

Or you can call Best Buy’s credit card services (I would do that) just google those words. Ask for a confirmation email.

It will probably post by 7/15, but it’s good to be proactive.
