, if I did get job I’m not sure I’d take it. I’m still stuck on the bus since 12:30 … it’s 13:19. I’ve got about 50 more mins. I’m baked it’s hot and unpleasent and I just want to get home:confused: argh
No air conditionner in the bus, I presume? That sucks milady… I feel for you.
Got to be realistic … traffic might be horrible I can’t spend two hours on transport … plus it’s a 9 to 17:30. I won’t cope
Ha ha yes it’s hot window is open but no air
That is one unhappy camper in your pic!
I wanted to cry too ,
I don’t blame you. I used to have to commute 1.5 hours each way on the bus at my last job in a city. Used to work for these folks back when they had offices in Western Canada:
Those three hours per day on the bus beat the heck out of me. I think you’re doing the right thing by factoring in commuting stress.
I tried to open your eyes to that reality early on in your other thread
Also, remember when I asked you if you have considered working from home? I don’t think you gave me an answer.
95% of my current job can be done from home, but it’s not allowed by company policy. Some old white guy who doesn’t think people aren’t working if they can’t be seen made that call. Fortunately, I can walk to work in 7 minutes. That helps.
City life sucks.
It strongly depends on the city size. I currently live with my old foks in a small-to-medium town (75,000 inhabitants by the latest census). It takes me 10 minutes by foot to reach downtown. 30 minutes from end to end. It’s also quite peaceful and the only downside is the job offer here is very scarce…
A town of 2700 people, and yes, the job problem is even more magnified here. The first year after we moved here I couldn’t find anything but crap jobs because no one knew me yet. The second year I got a decent paying job, but the hours were crazy in the summer (up to 80 per week) and horrible in the winter (1 day per week sometimes). The insurance gig is pretty sweet and came to me through a friend, which is how all of the ‘good’ jobs in small towns come to people. Sad reality.
I had to do a crap tonne of volunteering to build up social capital locally – that’s the only reason I have good job now.
1.5 hours is a lot. Worse when you take into account traffic and other delays. Not worth it. Unless the job was part time but it’s more hours than I’ve worked before
Hi @andrey lol I had to see it for myself I am not keen on work from home unless I get to spend a few days at the office. Socialising does make me anxious but if I try to hide I’m not going to really help myself
How was the interview? Did it go well?
My SIL works from home and travels by car. She is some sort of salesperson, I don’t know what she sells, LOL. She has video camera staring at her in her home office and in the car. Her employer monitors the videos to make sure she is working during those hours.
No I didn’t want to bring the illness into it she started asking about sick days and what medications I take.
WHAT!!! What kind of job was this for? I forget where you are from…
Yes it sounded odd she asked. It was a job in a charity. I’m based in London.
Oh it was an admin job
