Counselor Issues

I haven’t gone to my counselor for a while. I’m scared to go and I don’t know why.

It might have to do with missing a few sessions and not wanting to face him for fear of being berated. Does anyone know what I should do? Such as finding a new counselor, pushing through and going anyway, or just trying to stay on meds for now and see what happens?

Do you have a psychiatrist? Where do you get your meds from?

Sounds like you need to have a chat with someone about getting some more meds maybye? I’d say just go. People in the mental health system are under the pump these days in most places. They don’t care if your missing appointments…unless it’s America and your under insurance which they take ( is that a harsh comment? Seemed the way to me when I was there! ) .

Go have a chat with your treatment team…ie where you get your meds from!

I get my meds from my primary care physician, who prescribes based on what I relay from my counselor and how I feel about the current meds.

I’d always recommend a psydoc if you can do it financially. Doctors aren’t speciallists in mental health and a decent psydoc knows some things. It really is an art still on what to prescribe etc.

You do what you have to do though. It’s perfectly good to turn up to your doctor and say you need more meds…it’s good your getting involved in your own treatment.

It doens’t do you any good missing appointments but if your doing well it don’t matter. If your struggling a bit…go to them.

Give your doc a ring!

Well unfortunately the only advice I can recommend here is you have to face your fear and go or find a new one.

If you decide to go maybe bring someone with you to help with your nerves. Or if you have a good luck charm just anything that can help calm the nerves

If you decide to switch it’s not the end of the world what’s important is finding someone you’re comfortable with.

Do you click well with your current counselor? I found that I just couldn’t open up to one I had. If that’s the case for you, maybe you should find a different on. Either way, I think you should push through and keep the counseling going

I know for me I was stuck in therapy and didn’t want to go because I wasn’t ready to work on the “next” thing. But really I just wasn’t comfortable with that particular therapist on that particular subject. I wound up working through it on my own with the skills he taught me on other subjects. Now here it is years later and I’m starting therapy with a new guy, on a completely different subject and I don’t have that feeling of reluctance. It might be time for a break or time for a new therapist. But either way if your sz I recommend continuing your meds.

I don’t think that it’s because I can’t open up, but at the same time I can’t be sure, because he’s the only counselor I’ve tried so far. I guess if opening up to a counselor feels like an obvious thing, then I haven’t opened up to him yet.
