Committing To Work Out

Recently I have decided that I need to exercise more. I have been fortunate in not gaining a ton of weight on the meds I’ve been on, but I am not in the same shape I was in when I was a younger man. I am starting slowly with just push-ups and sit-ups and walking on the treadmill, working my way up to the weight machine and whatever else I may do. It will be good for me both physically and mentally.

My question is: do you exercise regularly and, if so, what do you do?

I do a lot of walking.

I used to exercise but can’t anymore because the meds make me feel like I’m made of paper.

What medication are you on? And if you can do pushups, don’t you feel like you elbows are going to explode?

I do a lot of walking several miles. I got some pre workout that’s been sitting in my house for week now after I got it. Still can’t find motivation to lift weights again

I am on 30 mg of Abilify at present. I have no problems with doing push-ups. I saw in your Risperdal vs Abilify post that you do. I hope that if you make the switch it will help you out.

I have been lazy these days. I exercise just twice to 3 times a week. I think I’ll start Kung Fu again. Pilates and Kung Fu will be great for me.

As long as you are committed you know, because it’s most important for schizophrenics to be committed.

Because without committment where would a schizophrenic be?

I hired a personal trainer short term to help me with cognitively remembering how to work the machines and I write them down and then I know instructions and to remember my weights excetera. But I’ve had bad days and can’t make it and lose those spots. Everytime I start something new I seem to lose the will to continue it. I am not driving right now so I will be going to the gym when my husband is going again! I am sure I will get back on track. So I guess not giving up or feeling like a failure would be the best thing, and just do it I can. It’s the most important thing that I need to do regularly.
Oh one more thing what cool is that my personal trainer was helping me with exercises for neurological strengthening and to stretch muscles that reduce anxiety. She was really helping me in ways to help me understand how to do the exercises. Then she told me later that the reason she knew how to help me so well was because she has a brother who struggles with cognitive difficulties because he has schizophrenia. I did not share very much of my health information with her other than the cognitive and anxiety Exedra so that was really cool. Written via voice to text
