Coffee Alternatives for Staying Awake?

Theobromine, caffeine and theophylline are the main stimulants in tea. It has a similar effect as caffeine but usually you don’t get the jitters. Theobromine is the most prevalent stimulant in cocoa. It doesn’t give you the same jittery feeling as caffeine but still will keep you up. Guarana also has caffeine-like effects. What are you looking for? Caffeine is OK in moderation; stick with green or black tea or coffee.

Incidentally, appropriate use of stimulants help with wakefulness only as they are complemented by restful sleep. Stacking stimulants does not exempt your tired brain cells from their need for sleep. Attempting to “supercharge” them will only irritate them and kindle the body’s defense posturing. This narrows your coping to fight/flight (anger/fear). My opinion only. Hope it helps.
