Clozaril how long to take effect?

Im on risperidone and haldol right now but still a lot of noise.

How long does clozaril take to start showing improvement?

Also on cobenfy which is offering no relief.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Give it time.

Meds aren’t just magic pills that start to work within seconds of digesting them.

U have to wait, be patient, let the meds build up in your system.

Don’t be so impatient.

Damn man dont be so impatient is kinda harsh.

This still doesnt answer my question either.

I know haldol and zyprexa are supposed to start working right away.

Im 2 weeks into cobenfy with no relief

Am very interested in clozaril and just curious how long that med takes

If there is impatience its due to tremendous suffering from delusions of control, command voices and just voices. All three are a lot to handle.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to come off as harsh.

I’m sorry you’re not feeling any relief.

I don’t know how long it takes for Clozaril to work, all I’m saying is it probably takes a while.

Thank you for that!

it will probably take a while cause the dose has to be started really low and worked up really slow. i took clozapine and really for me it was no better than any of the others just had more side effects

Okay for sure, thank you for the advice!

the answer is it depends on the person.
for some people it can “start working” within hours or days (antipsychotics are sometimes used for “bad trips” on drugs like amphetamines and “work” in one dose) but then the brain changes chemistry in response to the drug in complex, variable ways, and this process can take months, because the research, as far as I know, is not clear on this. Then there’s the psychological aspect, as you change as a person in complex ways

are you on 3 different antipsychotics at once? Usually, that’s the sign of either a malicious or incompetent prescriber.

I take 25 mg of clozapine and it makes me sleep in 1 to 2 hours. It’s a very low dose, but still I sleep 11 to 12 hours on it. The minimum effective dose is 200 mg.

Clozaril never worked for me. I had serious side effects though

I am up to 550mg and been on it nearly two years

My blood levels of Clozapine are very low

Not going to allow the dose to go much higher

I’ve been on meds like risperidone and Haldol too, and I know how frustrating it can be when they don’t fully help with the noise. Clozaril took a little while to start working for me, probably about a month before I started noticing a difference. It can be a slow process, but it’s worth sticking with it and checking in with your doctor if the meds don’t seem to be cutting it. I’ve had times when switching up the dosage or adding something else really helped, so it might be worth exploring other options.
