I gave my daughter the love of books. We started sitting down doing quality time when she was 2 years old, we’d examine both covers of the book, on the back of many of them they had a series of animated characters, and she could name all of them.

She started to memorize the books, the first step in starting to read. I’d have my work uniform on on a Saturday, and we’d go to the library and read out loud together at the same time. I got her into the Encyclopedia Brown books.

Then I read to her out loud all the Harry Potter books. She’d tell about what young adult books they were reading in school, and then I’d read them, and if we were lucky, they a movie of those books. She got into the vampire series, so I read all those too, then we saw the last movie together. She got into James Patterson, but I never read those. But typically she’ll read what I’ve read, and vice versa.

At one point she was the most well read 20 year old. She married a guy that loves books too.

I’m hard pressed to read a book these days, and you may be right, that lack of exercise is killing my attention span.
