Kind of a weird question. But I’m considering trying out living in a camper if the opportunity works out. I have a place that will let me stay there rent free. I still need to figure out if it’s legal before I do it tk live there in a camper, I did a quick Google search and found mixed answers so I have to find that out. But am I am able to own a camper while on ssdi in the US?
I don’t see any reason why not. I’m not following your reasoning as to why you might think it might be prohibited. Why would they not allow you to own a camper on ssdi?
They have asset limitations?
Yeah, I don’t think so. There are no asset limitations on ssdi.
well i heard you can own 1 car and 1 house. if your house is a camper idk? that’s for medicaid though, i believe we’re in the same state.
" Again, for the SSDI program, there is no limit to the amount of assets, cash, or resources you own. In addition, there’s no limit to the amount of income you or your spouse makes."
Is There a Social Security Disability Asset Limit? | DisabilitySecrets.
There are no limits on ssdi.
You are good @Moon
SSI - Has limitations
SSDI - No limitations
Oh! Ok good. I make too much for ssi anyway so I’m hoping for ssdi.
Well good luck to you. I hope you get it.
Yeah, good luck Moon. It took me several years so don’t get discouraged if they turn you down the first time. They almost always do.
I applied in 2017 I just had my hearing Sept 2.
Call them up and ask them.

Shorter wait times if you call early in the morning.
The only reason it would matter is if you’re trying to get assistance through Medicaid or SNAP. But even then, if you’re living in it then it would be considered your residence and that doesn’t count towards any asset limits even for SSI, Medicaid, etc.
Yes. You can own a camper. It’s no different than owning a car. You probably won’t need to register it, if it’s on land. Because it’s like storage. I don’t even know if people do register campers.
