Can Medications help me?

I am off medications, doing very bad.
Physically I am in excellent shape but apart from this nothing.
I sleep bad, and essentially do nothing all day.
My functioning is very poor.
Currently I don’t have positive symptoms, but mostly cognitive ones.
Do you think medication can help me?

If your doing so bad off medication, why wouldn’t you get on meds, doesn’t sound like they’d make your life that much worse.

Sadly their effect on negative symptoms is low, but you should talk with your psychiatrist about that.

I feel slightly better now…
Try to study a little …

If you don’t take your medication, soon you’ll relapse. Care for yourself.

Maybe the meds are worth a try. I would talk to the pdoc about what your options are.

I know what you mean about being in better physical shape being off the medications. I’m that way too. In my case, it is much better for me to stay on my med’s. No matter what kind of physical shape you’re in, having a level head is the best guarantor of your survival. I don’t have a level head when I am off the med’s.

Medications helped me with positive symptoms. I heard a voice and after two weeks taking risperidone it disappeared, but they affected my cognition and gave me strong negative symptoms.

I can’t tell you what to do, but I in particular found medication helpful just with positive symptoms, everything else went worse.

Yes medication really does help a lot. It may a while before you start feeling better and it won’t be a sudden effect, you will just wake up feeling better and better some day. Not completely back to your old self but much better. I hope you feel well soon

medications could help you out. but it sounds like you’re having mainly cognitive issues. i don’t know how much the meds help with that. i’m on medication but i still get confusion spells and dilusional thinking. do you think that an antidepressant would help you out? do you get waves of depression while you have nothing to do during the day? could you take up a hobby? or do you have lack of motivation too?

Have you had positive symptoms before? How long have you been off meds?

Yes I had positive symptoms. Psychosis, delusions, hallucinations( auditory and visual).
However, now I mostly hear voices occasionally and that’s it.
As I see it no chance of relapse. Zero.
I have been off meds almost all the time.
My parents medicated me for a short period when acutely psychotic,
and I intentionally tried risperidone, with very bad results.
The doc wanted me to try Clozapine.(I didn’t want to as risperidone appeared to make things worse).
That is my only experience with antipsychotics.
I am not sure they will help me now as well as cognition is my main problem.( And they may cause harm).
( this is to TomCat)

johnny5, I appreciate your concern.
Yes I mainly have cognitive problems and you appear unclear on them.
I don’t have mood problems, my mood is good.
I do have a hobby chess.I also try studying mathematics.
When I opened the topic I was temporarily feeling down, that’s why I exaggerated writing that I do nothing.
