It’s possible for researchers to note differences between schizophrenic brains and neurotypical brains, but it’s nowhere near accurate enough for diagnostics right now. Maybe in a few years, though.

Take your meds. They will prevent grey matter loss.

Yes. A study done by Yale showed that patients who were med compliant had less grey matter loss over time than patients who refused to take their meds.
but AP’s are linked with increased dementia risk.
Psychosis is linked with increased dementia risk. Antipsychotics can decrease that risk.

There are some special cases, but for the most part, if you’re prescribed antipsychotics, then you need to take them. These drugs are hard on the body, but psychosis is harder, so if your doctor prescribed them, then your presentation suggests that the risk of not taking them is greater than the risk of taking them. You seem to be under the impression that dementia is worse than psychosis, but it’s not. They’re both equally devastating to sufferers and loved ones alike. And you’re talking like, once you develop dementia, your schizophrenia goes away. Well, it doesn’t. If you develop dementia, then you’ll develop dementia, but all that’ll happen if you don’t take your meds is that you’ll have dementia and schizophrenic psychosis, and they’ll have to pretty much sedate you with benzos and tranquilizers because you can’t give AP’s to people with dementia.

Yes this is what the new studies show, and I’m very concerned but I just can’t stop taking my APs because my psychotic episodes are so disabling.

I’m hoping in the future there will be a law passed that allows people to voluntarily be put down if they develop alzheimers or dementia. I know I don’t want to be alive for a disease like that.

I imagine they’re trying to figure it out. It’s not like they make any money off of us like they do with some other diseases. Because at the end of the day, if someone can’t afford chemo, they and their families tend to be willing to go the extra mile to find a way to pay. Meanwhile, if a schizophrenic can’t afford their meds, they just don’t take them and end up living with their parents, on the streets, in prisons and jails, or in public hospitals. My point? They spend more money on us than they make. Why else would they be so hellbent on developing medications that are easier on the body and medications that, by extension, we’re more willing to take?
My mom has dementia and I’d rather not live through it either.

I have a feeling my mom is on the path to alzheimers from what I have been reading.
