Can canned food mess with your stomach?

I have been trying not to eat to much canned food and slowly trying to reduce my intake of overly processed food last night I ate a can of beef-a-roni (not sure if I spelt that right) and I woke up with hard stool and a stomachache and was wondering if it could have been the canned meal… I’ve been trying to make what I can from scratch… It can be hard… Hopefully I get better at it only time will tell

Sure… What you eat processes differently.

Like I’m doing so much better eating cucumbers for all my meals.

Thats great that you are making meals from scratch. Feel better @Twialine

I eat a lot of it, canned, especially this winter, soup.

I’m starting to think I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

always been thinking it’s just cramping in my uterus,
but it might be something else.
wish I had mentioned it to my doc the other day.

@Daze sorry to hear you’re having stomach issues as well. I use to have lose stool with cramping a lot, I mentioned it to the doctor but not tests were ran just meds to help with symptoms, I wish you luck!

Well…fresh food is probably preferable for the body. It wouldn’t surprise me if there is a connection between canned food and bad digestion.

Yeah can foods can upset the stomach, if not heated to the correct temperatures… some have good bacteria that help with food preservation…while some can have have bacteria with endospores (envelopes) around them that has to be heated to kill them. Watch for expiration dates too.

I thoughr you couldn’t have gluten? Beef a roni has pasta in it that contains gluten. Probably the issue. Or any of the other nasties used to make that stuff.

I use to not but my stomach healed some how? I’m not 100% sure but now I can

Coeliac disease is never reversible. Maybe you have NCGS which is a sensitivity to gluten. Changing your diet prolly helped. Canned processed food definitely has a higher sodium content. That can mess with your system, too.

@anon55031185 @anon4362788 I simply had a hunch it was Celiac doctors won’t do any tests so I have no clue to be honest, I think I’ve mentioned before that doctors won’t test me for anything just give me meds for my symptoms

If it was celiac you would know. People don’t heal from allergies, even with meds. So I wouldn’t let it scare you. Your stomach may just be sensitive to highly processed food. Mine is that way.

To get them to do tests ask to be tested, if they refuse ask them to document refusal in your record. They usually do not want to be seen refusing tests, so they will then order the tests.

@anon4362788 I think the tests aren’t paid for by my insurance. I’ll remember that though

@anon55031185 I think I may have problems with overly processed food

What type do you have? I have Medicaid and some doctors will only give the most basic tests and care.

Well you do need to have multiple factors to be suspected of having celiac disease. And it’s usually verified by a colonoscopy. So if you don’t fill all the criterias, that might be why you have not been tested. The tests are invasive. I know. I’ve been tested. It’s annoying. But you can ask if you really have strong feelings. All I’m saying, celiac disease never heals itself. You have to follow a critically strict diet, and if you don’t, you will suffer. I know this, having two in the family.
