i want install pop os. but i dont know how to create partitions becouse my pc has ssd and hdd. there is information on internet. but its require some understanding to what to do
I wouldn’t do it. You could erase all your data if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Instead download vmware player and install linux on that.
Been there, done that. When I was first learning Linux I made a ton of mistakes. There is a lot of difference between Windows and Linux and I was confused about a lot of stuff at first.
If you know how, one option is to buy a new blank ssd, pop it into your computer, and install Linux on that so you don’t delete any data on your other hard drives.
When it comes to partitioning at a minimum you need a root partition (/) and a swap partition. Some argue a swap partition can be optional if you have a lot of memory but I always have a swap partition. Some people create a separate /home partition too. It’s up to you.
But what size to make partitions. I have Ubuntu installed now. But I want to install pop os. I don’t know about size partitions must have. I don’t mind erasing
I’ve not used pop os specifically so I am not familiar with its installer. But in general you can make your partitions any size you want. If you don’t mind erasing the data just keep the same partition layout you already have and simply format them and remount them as / swap /home or however you have it currently setup.
It’s hard to make recommendations without knowing anything about your setup or your needs and requirements, but just to throw something out there…
/ Maybe 20 GB (This is where all the Linux software will be installed, in various directories)
/swap Make it 4-8 GB (Virtual memory, if you run out of memory Linux will use this as a backup)
/home Use the rest of your hard drive (If you store a lot of music, videos, pictures etc…)
You don’t necessarily have to make a /home partition. If you don’t the /home directory will just be part of / parition in which case make the / partition your entire hard drive leaving 4-8 GB for swap.
Linux is very customizable, there are a lot of ways of doing this…
So i installed pop os 21.04 nvidia.
Made partitions
256ssd
/boot/efi 2gb ext4
/swap 4gb
/root all left space
In 2Tb hdd i made /home partition ext4
As in pop os documentation auto mount drive i made everything with disk utility. The 2tb folder appeared but with orange lock icon. Does anyone know what does it mean. It should appear with eject icon as i understand.
How the hell i put files in my second drive
