Can antidepressants improve reading comprehension

Since the Zoloft I’ve gone back to reading and it comes easier than ever. It’s like I’m re born in a sense of literacy and how I understand it. I was surprised when I read 70 pages of one book I previously didn’t comprehend. But just now I read 30 pages of a Vonnegut book I could never concentrate well enough to read. Wow this is great!!!

I’m so happy for you but books are so barbarian

I imagine it would depend on the person and on the anti-depressant, but yes, I can see an anti-depressant improving the reading quality of a person. I’m happy for you.

I’ve always reacted really well to medications it seems. I consider myself lucky and blessed. It’s just about finding the ones that don’t have the sideeffects it seems. And a little luck involved and whatnot. But the concentration I just experienced was something I’ve been devoid of my entire life so it was almost a spiritual experience to understand that book so well.

I think coffee improves reading comprehension. Why not antidepressants.?

Antidepressants apparently help restore brain volume that is lost in depression. There is a school of thought that the SSRI effects are responsible for the mood change because of the neurogenesis and not the serotonin directly.

Well I first became depressed around 13 years old. I never read a book from 13-23 other than catcher in the rye. And that was when I was 14 or 15. Then when I was 23 I attempted to read. I think the abilify helped a little for me to read but now the Zoloft has made a much bigger difference. I hope it continues.
