Can an antipsychotic cause extrapiramidal side effects?

Read the title lol.
I’m on Invega AP since one year and a half or so…,
When i walk my left hand(left wrist) moves involuntary to the left side.
My pdoc mentioned extrapiramidal…
Can it be true? If you know this???

Yes. Usually increases with dosage. Talk to your doctor. Some people have to take meds to combat those side effects but that is mostly treatment resistent/high dosage punters!

I take procyclidine because I get movement in my whole body without it, and it’s uncontrollable now without meds. I still get pill rolling in my hands and my legs are very twitchy with muscle movements.

The class of drug is anticholinergic - you can find out about it online.

I couldn’t tell you whether it’s permanent or not as I don’t even think my Dr. knows!

Yes. Although less commonly than the older typical antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics can be associated with movement disorders including akathisia (motor restlessness), dyskinesias (acute and tardive), dystonias, parkinsonianism, tremor, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

They can be managed by dosage reduction, change in med or by giving meds that counter such as Cogentin, Inderal, Symmetrel and sometimes Ativan.
