Can a deluded person be guarded with their delusions?

Like only letting their guard down when intoxicated then sending ranting emails to care team? But apart from that hide what their thinking because it just causes trouble?

Yeah, I read a study where they studied people with delusions that started as a response to extreme psychological stress (workplace bullying, social isolation, etc.), and the delusions helped those people cope where otherwise they would’ve offed themselves.
