someone i know told me this but I think they were lying
People can do amazing things if asked. Often that isn’t asking in the nicest way and there’s plenty of instances of abuse out there.
Not sure what your asking here? There’s plenty of instances in human history where amazing records are done.
can a family of 44, 15 and 13 go on a 45 mile walk?
I have no idea of personal things and it’s probably not the best venue to even ask such things. It’s a mental health support board…how do these factors relate?
i don’t know if i’m being lied to
Context is everything and it’s probably not the venue to find out. I’m sorry it’s an issue but I’ll leave it. I’m not sure there’s much people can do with such a question…??
it’s a personal friend… said he did this with his family… i don’t know what to believe
45 miles in one day seems excessive for anyone regardless of age. I think it’s technically possible, but it wouldn’t be a regular thing.
When I was 12 years old, I did a 55 km walk or 35 miles. It is possible but you need to be trained and very fit.
I’m lucky if i can do 1 mile
Maybe 43 miles but not 44 miles.
Yes, but it would take most of their waking hours and they would have very sore feet if they were not an experienced walker.
I walked 6.3 miles yesterday.
That would be extreme walking / activity IMO.
I would talk to the child and is the child prepared for a walk / hike like that.
Don’t people have to train for long distance stuff?
Someone who isn’t in the habit of walking would likely have very sore joints, a sore back, and blistered feet after a jaunt like that. I can do 10km no problem. 20km pushes my limits. 72km (45 miles) in one day would probably end me at my age.
At an average speed of about 5 km/hr, you need between 14 and 15 hrs to cover 45 miles aka 72km if you don’t take rests.
I’m in my late 30s and I don’t feel capable of such a feet. But if there was a consistent prize involved, I might give it a shot.
There’s a challenge in the Appalachian Trail to walk the four states section, where you hit parts of four states, in 24 hours. It is 42 miles, and this suggests it is possible, but a pretty big challenge. With that being said, with more even terrain and a low elevation gain, I assume it would make it less challenging than on the Appalachian Trail.
I know it is possible, as to if this family did it, well that’s another question. No reason to not take them at face value knowing that it is in the realm of being possible.

I walked 84.6 miles last week, and my highest day was 17.7 miles. Im still recovering a bit. I do think in about a year I’d be able to do this, but context matters. Im still a big dude weighing in at 265 pounds and still building my body up to handle long distance hiking and running. If this family lives a very active lifestyle, it doesn’t seem all that unbelievable to me.
I reckon they were lying. It takes like 20 mins for a 1 mile so they would have to walk for 15 hours straight. And even if they did a mile in 15 mins, eventually they would get tired and a mile would take 20 mins or longer.
13 yr old boy, 15 yr old girl, 44yr old man
im still in 2 minds
he has mentioned a 30 mile hike last week or 2 weeks ago, can’t remember
You could ask which route they took? If it takes them long to answer and the trip doesn’t add up with the miles, you’ll know something more.
