Breast cancer update

Continuing from the above thread.

I got preliminary results back from my biopsy. I have invasive ductal carcinoma.

So far I’m doing good with the news. My GP freaked me out by giving worst case scenarios.

Will find out more info next week at the surgeons.

I hope for the absolute best case scenario for you. I think if I were a doctor I would not give worst case scenario unless the patient asked, I would give the most common outcome.

Oh geez, @Skims I’m so sorry you’re going through that.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t say much at all, let alone ask for the worst case. Lol

She also thought I already knew. so it was quite shocking news. It was an odd appointment.

She said its stage 3, 3. But when I logged into the patient portal to read the reports I don’t know where she got that data. It doesn’t make sense.

Maybe write down a list of questions for when you meet with the oncologist.

They have a lot of good treatments for breast cancer nowadays that they didn’t used to have, so, I would have a lot of hope if I were you. Even stage 4 breast cancer can be successfully treated now. I will be thinking of you. And please, keep us posted.

I’m so sorry, stay strong. No reason to fear excessively, learn all you can about the condition.

Your doctor was wise to give you the worst case scenarios, its not good to sugarcoat things.

Above all hope for the best in recovery.

Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

You are right @Anon10, I’m trying to get as much information as I can before the consult this coming week with the surgeon. Its all so confusing, and I’m probably in denial.

Thanks @Andrey, I’ll be needing to lean on this forum for support as I only have my SO. I haven’t told my parents yet, as I want the full picture to tell them. But they are not particularly supportive or helpful. I guess they mean well.

@LilyoftheValley (I just got your name piano-gal, lol, I thought it was an Italian name). I’m trying not to jump onto any wild ideas I get from the internet about treatment, better to wait and see what the surgeon and oncologist have to say 1st and 2nd opinions.

@SkinnyMe Thank you for your kind words.

@Moonbeam definitely will be writing a list. I also kind of have a list of demands in my mind too, lol. I want the least invasive possible, need to work with pdoc for meds, conserve eggs and keep my uterus. Its a lot to ask at this point not knowing much.

Awe man I hadn’t even thought of losing my hair! Eek! I just got it cut too, it was past my bellybutton. Now its about boob length. I suppose it won’t be to bad to have short hair for my wedding in September. I’ve never had short hair.

I’m so sorry, Skims, for what you are going through. Wishing you a smooth process through it all.
