Books instead of therapy

I had quit therapy
cos i had no money.
Now i take disability benefits
and i can afford the therapy,
but i think i prefer reading and bying books.
Do you think book therapy is an actual thing?

I like my therapist
but i like books more

Reading keeps you engaged, motivated and intellectually tickled. It fills your days with purpose and you get to routinely commune with some of the greatest minds to ever walk the earth. I’m not sure a therapist could ever match that.

Yes, that’s it.
You said it well.
Have you ever seen a therapist?

Yes, and to be fair they can be helpful. But I know how much books mean to you.

It is very positive that you’re reading books, but you need therapy too. It’s not an “either / or” situation. You can do both.

If i could do both,
I wouldn’t make this thread

Reading allows you to get lost in another world. Good novels create a fantasy inside your mind, I like books and movies. How about writing? I like writing. It gives me a chance to vent. How about you?

I’m kind of the same way. When I read I want to shut out the rest of the world and get into what I am reading, but I think therapy is very important for people like us. You would just go to therapy for, what, one or two hours a week?

It costs 30 euros the session,
20 euros the gas in the car,
it’s 50km away.
I could do maybe 2 times a month.
I must think about it.
I wanna spend my disability money wisely

I was a successful poet
in the past.
For the last years, i havent written anything.
These days i am making something.
I’m trying, anyway

That sounds about right. You need someone you can check in with, someone who can give you feedback. If your situation is anything like the situation I would be in if I left assisted living, two times a month is about all a therapist can give you.

I pay for psychiatrist monthly,
but therapist goes deeply in my soul.
Psychiatrist can’t do it

Maybe you could see your therapist once a month.

Do you also see a therapist?

I get group therapy once or twice a day in the assisted living center where I live. I see a psychiatrist once a month, and I see a medical doctor once every three months. That’s about right for me.
