Book recommendations?

Hey there… We arent doing much in the field of presents for christmas, since we have our local festivity for that. But my mum has the tradition of giving us all 1 book. Any recommendations for what to ask? She wants a list!

No horror/thriller/paranormal stuff, for the rest all is okay. I have a bit of an issue concentrating, so alternative kind of books (e.g. poetry, photography, art, cookbook) is okay too!

Whats your favourite? Or a good one you just read?

“Perfume” by Suskind. It was a great read. Read it many moons ago, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is about a person who can smell acutely. He makes perfume from the bodies.

If that is too macabre for you, then Wiil Self’s “Great Apes” is about a person who wakes up in a world where all humans have turned to apes, including himself. It is hilarious and so well written.

If you want to laugh Janet Evanovich has an easy to read series that doesn’t require a long attention span. The first book in the series is One For the Money.

Hilarious fiction for kids and young adults alike. I’ve read it twice!

Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, is a great one, a classic. My other favorite novels are The Catcher in the Rye, and Of Mice and Men, but I’m guessing you’ve probably already read those.

I used to have the complete works of Dylan Thomas, and of Emily Dickinson, my two favorite poets.

Thanks for all the nice suggestions!

There’s a woman on here with the screen named, “Catch22”.

A guy named Joseph Heller wrote a funny/serious novel set in world War II called Catch-22. The book is hilarious, very well written and most adults over the age of 45 have probably heard of it.

If you have concentration issues try Harry Potter books. They helped me get back into reading and they aren’t a difficult read. Most young fiction is a good place to start till you get back into the reading!

The Discworld novels by Pratchett and the Hitchhikers series by Adams are fun light reads.

I just got a science book that’s supposed to be really good. The title of it is “The Gene.”

It’s about the history of the science of genetics. It also talks about sz and mental illness quite a bit.

I haven’t read this book yet though. Too busy with school.

Another one that’s supposed to be really good is “Zorba the Greek.”

I’m reading about the wives of Henry VIII as historical fiction. I love Alison Weir’s books.

I always say Cannery Row. It’s one of the best books ever written .IMHO Each chapter is short and can stand by itself. The same as Revenge of the Lawn by Richard Brauhghtigan…
