Best treatment for metabolic syndrome?

I have pretty bad metabolic response to quetiapine - weight gain, raised lipids and raised blood sugar. I eat no refined sugar and eat 2200 calories a day but I weigh 160kg and this is rising despite a normal calorie intake.

It is clear quetiapine is the culprit. Any suggestions?

It’s obvious, change from atypicals to typicals,

Talk to your doctor about treating the symptoms. Like take metformin for raised blood sugar, etc etc.

Or switch to abilify from seroquel. It has less problems with metabolic stuff. You’re already on a depot as well so maybe switching wouldn’t be as risky.

How’s your motility? I ask, but I don’t really want to know :scream_cat: I’ve read several places that drastically slowed motility is a problem with clozapine, and that doctors recommend probiotics and laxatives to alleviate the effects.

I suspect it’s a problem with other meds, too. If it is for you, maybe ask about what treatments might be safe for it?

Motility is ok thanks. I have ibs so this counteracts any slowing.

Yeah @everhopeful I think maybe a change in meds is in order. Like you say am already on the depot.

How strict are you with those 2200 calories? If youre 160kg the weight should be coming off big time on 2200 calories regardless of meds

Am strict. Some days I have 2500 but no more. Am really sure the meds have messed up my metabolism.

I’d stick with it still. My dietician said it’s possible not to lose weight for months even though you’re in calorie deficit. They don’t understand why this happens. Then you start to lose weight again.
