dude poutine is the goat damn.
Arenât you guys always complaining about weight gain?
I know meds donât help, in fact bad food is possibly mulitplied by the meds.
Most of us die young due to metabolic issues.
The silent killer is not the fat which in fast food is more likely trans fats, but the amount of salt in this stuff is unbelievable.
I was going to make a meme of a large guy eating a pizza and say âItâs the meds, man!â but it is in bad taste.
I get it.
No dopamine, no fun and food repalcement meets this dopamine rush needed, but it is killing you.
If you want to argue that life isnât worth living without some âfunâ then so be it, but why are you guys complaining about weight gain and blaming the meds when fast food is often more than a weekly occurrence?
Having fast food once in a while is not the end of the world. Everything in moderation.
Thats the problem, I canât eat bad food in moderation while on Olanzapine. It makes me a food monster. It makes me want to eat it 24/7 and in HUGE amounts.
Before meds, 1 burger would satisfy me. Now it takes about 3 at once to satisfy me. Then 30 to 60 minutes later im hungry AGAIN.
Im not saying Olanzapine is 100% bad. It helps people mentally for sure. It helps bring you out of a dark time in your life.
But physicaly? It literally KILLS you. Severe weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes and much, much more.
I get what you mean â itâs a fair point. I acknowledge that fast food is very unhealthy â I try to eat it in very limited occurrences.
I also try not to complain too much about being overweight. Iâm overweight due to a sedentary lifestyle, no exercise, and having unhealthy eating habits. I acknowledge all of that. Then throw APs on top of that, and itâs a recipe for an unhealthy physical lifestyle.
We could all eat healthier and do more exercise
I canât believe Skyline Chili is a real place. I saw it on the Simpsons lol.
Over here the best quality is Five Guys but I donât eat there anymore because a combo meal is 20 dollars.
lol, yep, itâs real. And the fact that it showed up on the Simpsons makes me like it even more haha
I understand the hunger. I had it for a brief while on haloperidol
A ravenous hunger.
If you are going to eat perhaps replace the foods which are desgned to never satisfy and crave more with healthier alternatives.
Things like oats are ideal replacements for it. You can make porridge, oat cakes with fruits etc. , replace sugar with stevia while you are at it. it is nearly identical to sugar in its granulated form.
Eat foods which arenât so addictive like salads and plenty of it and no dressing either!
I am sure that there are lots of food which fill you up more than a burger specifically designed to be moreish with the copious amounts of salt in it and sugar filled bread baps.
Do the research and seek out the correct foods instead.
It is harder, but it will save your life.
Fast food chain. We have an Oriental Chef down the road, we have a Dominos and Papa Johns too. We tend to have a lot of Greek/Turkish/Med meze here to be honest⌠but not junk food.
My favorite type of cuisine. Unfortunately, there arenât too many places to get it here in the Midwest USA
Olanzapine makes me crave unhealthy foods though. Before meds I was never like this, always in great shape and content with eating healthy foods (veggies and fruits)
in-n-out, chic-fil-a, and chipotle, I guess lolâŚ
There are food laboratories specifically designing these âfast foodsâ. It is a science.
These foods will never satisfy you. They are chemically formulated to be addictive.
Honestly, from pringles to subway.
Fair enough @TheCanuk Even AI agrees with you.
I would request a med change then. I wouldnât accept that side effect profile if i could possibly avoid it. It is equivalent to saying âif you take this medication you will die youngâ and be absolutely sterotypical to the cardio issues that szs die from.
At the end is calories in vs calories out.
It does not matter where the calories come from. Or if they have âadditives to make them addictiveâ.
Eating healthy is another story. But for me, healthy eating means varied, and it can incorporate fast food every once it a while. Itâs not the devil. It has itâs (not the best) nutritional valueâŚ
This is what bing ai says about olanzipine:
Olanzapine (Zyprexa), an antipsychotic medication, can indeed lead to intense food cravings and weight gain. Hereâs why:
- Increases Hunger and Cravings: Olanzapine affects hunger-regulating receptors in the brain, leading to intense food cravings and a constant urge to binge eat.
- Slows Metabolism: It reduces calorie-burning efficiency, causing weight gain even when eating more.
- Encourages Fat Storage: Olanzapine alters how the body handles fats, promoting fat storage.
- Insulin Resistance: Long-term use is linked to insulin resistance, contributing to weight gain1.
So, itâs not just an excuse; the drugâs effects can genuinely lead to unhealthy food cravings.
I take it all back @TheCanuk Olanzapine is a slow death sentence.
I used to be skinny until I got on APs. They definitely affect me. At least I think so.
No worries! Yes it literally is a slow death sentence. Sucks ![]()
Me too. Went from 150 to 220 over about 3 years.
Iâm thinking Arbyâs. They have bread, they have sliced roast beef, and they have fried potatoes. âBreads and cereals,â âmeat,â and a âvegetable.â All for a much better price than many fast food places. If I donât like high food prices, maybe I can keep it simpler like that sometimes?
I remember that ravenous hunger I once had for the brief time I had haloperidol.
As it has been pointed out Olanzapine has the same if not worse hunger cravings for unhealthy food.
To have those emotions and physical needs on zyprexa must be awful. Day after day, week after week ad infinitum. Bloody awful!
I donât think I will ever criticize the eating habits of anyone on APs again or look down on them either.
Lesson learned! ![]()
OSBK smokehouse is about the best in the area that I live in.
