Best and worst doctors and therapists

I have had a few good doctors three good rest were terrible. Especially the two worsts they put me and kept me on meds that made me physically ill but they didn’t care. As longs as Medicaid paid them. The best was mark he addressed all my issues in the first appointment and got me to trust him when he knew exactly what the voices were saying.

The therapists have been hit or miss some good some bad. The one I saw the longest was my last one but her clinic discharged me. I’m hoping I get along with my new one that I see Wednesday.

I’m in favor or getting rid of psychiatrists and making AP over the counter.

My 7 minute psychiatrist visit costs $100 (Medicare negotiated price). For that much money I can figure out proper dosage on my own.

Is this a reasonable thought?

None of mine were terrible. I almost always get along with either therapists and psychiatrists. Some I like more than others. I think I only disliked one of them once.

Ive had one who i think was a proper psychiatrist. she was fine, not super personable, very clinical, and didn’t really pick up on anything wrong w me other than having ocd whereas other mental health professionals ive seen have been able to pick up on me having an ASD pretty easily. ive been seeing a nurse practitioner since i was 13 or 14, she functions as my psychiatrist. i like her a lot, shes very sweet and listens to my problems and my concerns about medications if i have any. i also saw a psychiatrist one time as this clinic two hours from where i live to get a affirmation of my ASD diagnosis (it was a center that specialized in child psychiatry) for insurance purposes, which is where i was also diagnosed with early onset schizophrenia. he seemed very nice and knowledgeable. as for therapists, ive been through…i think around 5 of those? first was a nightmare, it was before they knew anything other than ocd was present in me and she was really not very good. she blamed all my mental distress on my sexuality and tried to sway me from being gay. then i started seeing a lovely elderly woman at the same clinic as the nurse practitioner, she helped me come out of my shell a bit and was very friendly. after she retired i switched to a new one who only stayed about a year and a half - two years before deciding to switch to a private practice clinic (which, im a private payer, but didnt wanna switch from the nurse practitioner so i didnt follow her when she left). i sometimes got the vibe that she didnt take the job very seriously, but she was nice and helped me to develop insight into my abuse and was the first one to suggest i had a problem with attachment and relationship styles. after she left i started seeing ANOTHER at this clinic, i only got to see her for about six months before she got a higher up position with the clinic and had to transfer all her patients. she was a bit…strange i guess, sometimes robotic but was very positive and adamant about helping me and even gave me homework to research attachment styles. she suggested i have schizoaffective disorder on top of attachment issues and possible personality disorder. while seeing her i also had a couple sessions with a therapist near by (ultimately didnt stick with her because insurance wouldnt cover seeing a second therapist and i HAD to see a therapist at the other clinic to be able to see the nurse practitioner.). she was okay…didnt seem to be that convinced that i had psychotic symptoms (“are you sure you weren’t just imagining it?”) but she was nice. she wanted me to take up physical activity to help with my problems. now since therapist number 3 at that clinic has left im switching to the last one there who accepts private insurance, whos apparently one of the highest up in the clinic. ive heard shes very nice, so i hope she can help me

eta; this turned into a huge paragraph oops lol

My first two psychiatrists were male and were abusive and basically incompetent.

My last psychiatrist wasn’t incompetent but didn’t have a whole lot of experience treating Schizophrenics.
She was physically attractive and knew it.

My current psychiatrist went to the second best Medical School in India and was trained in top notch Universities here in the States, including Harvard.

She has a lot of experience dealing with and treating Psychotic patients.

She is very easy going when she likes you.
She seems to like me.

APs are complicated. One needs the supervision of a MD re: APs, unfortunately - @anon99082702.

I’ve had some terrible and downright mean inpatient psychiatrists at the VA hospital. But, all my outpatient psychiatrists have been easygoing, super smart and friendly.

My best and worst psychiatrists are the same person, strangely enough. The first time I saw him I got so pissed at how he was treating me I walked out and told him to ■■■■ off. My clinician was in the office with me and saw how he treated me. He was the only psychiatrist at the clinic, so I had to switch clinics. They had a lot of meetings about my appointment.

I was eventually discharged because my insurance changed, then hospitalized again and got Medicaid back so I was put back in that program with him as my doctor again. I was understandably hesitant, but my clinician agreed to come to all my appointments with me. After a couple I decided to go alone. He’s seriously been so great. Here’s trusting of me and trustworthy as a doctor. Here’s knowledgeable and really listens to me. He’s great. Now.

I had one therapist that was a complete quack. The rest were okay.

I told a pdoc i didnt know that i was feeling bad and dizzy and she said jump on one place.
