Behavioural Activation

Anyone here familiar with this? It’s supposed to be a way to train yourself to not have anhedonia. I guess the idea is if there’s something you used to like to do but don’t enjoy anymore, you can get back to normal if you make yourself do it a little bit at a time even if you don’t want to.

I can’t seem to get myself to do this for some reason. My mind just goes “what’s the point?”. As a result I spent a lot of time each day just sitting around. I don’t know if I’m just worn out from dealing with other symptoms and I don’t want to trudge myself through something I’m not going to enjoy, but even though conventional wisdom is that behavioural activation works, I can’t seem to see the value in doing it.

It helps to try doing the things you used to like for a set amount of time, then evaluating your self on the “pleasure scale”.

1 being the lowest amount of pleasure and 10 being the highest.

One for during the activity, and after.

And write a side note of how you felt during the time you invested and after.

The important part of this is to CONTINUE doing this.

Perseverance is key.
