Be careful taking Meds that have long Expired

For the last week or so, I have been taking Klonopin from another bottle -
Slowly but surely I was getting more anxious and paranoid, but did not really know why - I was also Rapid Cycling more.
This happened for about a couple of weeks.
A couple of days ago I checked to see how old the meds were, they Expired sometime in 2012 - thats about 3 years old or so.
It seems that the Expired Klonopin have lost its Efficacy/strength - they were not working as well.
I took the updated Klonopin 2 days ago and started feeling calmer.

Old meds lose their strength after a while - just be careful
A big and hard lesson for me!

Are you in therapy as well? Just it always seems to me your constantly going on about and only relying on meds and a very bad idea, As for one your not learning coping skills to deal with symptoms. Med therapy works best with talking therapy. They do go in hand in hand and is scientifically proven.

Anyone can make that mistake - Of course I go to therapy.
I have a very complex form of BP/SZA - meds mean everything to me.
I am very sensitive to the effects of meds - if anything is off even slightly - everything (symptoms) start to fall apart.
Trying to talk away serious symptoms, like ultradian cycling and mixed states is frankly a joke.

What therapy are you doing? Also may explain why feel trying to talk away serious symptoms, like ultradian cycling and mixed states is frankly a joke. As your probably doing the wrong therapy for you and not how it should work at all.

I have done over 2 years of pure CBT - Now its a mix of CBT and DBT -
CBT helped me in the past, when I was more unstable - Now that I am more stable, it does not seem to work as well - I get tired of it very quickly. Dont get much out of it - sorry, but thats me.

Biological based illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar respond to Meds - period.
I do relaxation techniques, deep breathing, visualizations, CBT, Mindfuness etc…
They help me out but not enough - If you think that talk therapy is a primary treatment for serious biological based mental illnesses - you are mistaken.
I need the meds, talk therapy is secondary.
Yes they do compliment each other - I have been in therapy for decades

I am so sorry about your experience with your medication. If you do find some medication and do not know how long you have had it, please throw it in the trash. Please don’t flush down the toilet. I used to do that; but, I have read that it contaminates the water system. I am so glad that you are feeling much better. I do not like to preach. My mother preaches at all the time and I end up calling my therapist. Only for your health safety, please check your pill bottles for expiration dates before ingesting. Please take care of yourself. In the end, you know what is best for you and what you need for your wellbeing. Remember you are the magic!

thank you @Greykitten, your words are very kind.
I will be more careful - its a lesson for me.
Take care!

Reading through this again I’m not great today but do remember telling you to get rid of all your old meds once.

Now you see why I was worried on you and told you to get rid of them!

I do realize that you are not feeling so great as you mentioned.
I am not going to respond, as I want to avoid conflict.
Preaching to others is unbecoming, but it’s probably the illness talking

In Sweden we have to return old medicine to the farmacist. They destroy them. Don’t throw in the garbage or toilet. It will end up in nature.

I will most likely take the old drugs to the pharmacy - I think this is how its done here too
