any hoops fans excited for the season? new orleans plays defending champ Toronto first then the lakers play the clippers in the late game.
I will watch the first game, it’s not going to be as exciting since zion Williamson is out with a knee injury. but hey, at least basketball is back.
the second game will be better, but I should be sleeping so can’t watch it.
and soon college ball will start up. I prefer college ball over the NBA but I watch both. the future of college ball may be in jeopardy if the NBA expands it’s draft and continues to improve the G league (minor leagues). I think I read a player can make up to $125,000 a year, playing in the G league. so maybe more high school seniors will go to the G league, and also more players potentially being picked will mean less talented college rosters. looks like the writing is on the wall for amateur athletes to start being able to make money on their likeness, with the new California law, and some prominent NCAA coaches coming out in support of pay to play philosophies. I think if amateur athletes do start getting paid, it will put an end to the mid major in college basketball. the only good teams will be the blue bloods and big state colleges in major conferences.
I’ll be watching the first game tonight. The second game will be better, but I’ll be fast asleep. The World Series also starts tonight, so I’ll probably flip back and forth between the two
oh yeah I forgot about the world series. I read the Houston astros are the biggest world series favorite since 2007. also interesting to note, the Washington nationals are the oldest team in baseball. in a league that is more and more obsessed with young talent, in the post steroid era.
earlier this year I read that montreal was exploring the idea of sharing a baseball team with a city in florida. they would start the year in florida, and then move to montreal when Canada gets warm, and then move back south late in the year. haha. the snowbirds!
also the 1994 expos. were possibly one of the most talented teams of the 90’s. shame they had no chance of the postseason because of the player strike. they had so many stars on that team. what could have been, maybe a world series win would have saved the franchise.
o. yankees are always solid. my reds were in first place as well that year. believe it or not, back in 94, Cincinnati reds, had the highest payroll in the national league. when play resumed, they were left in the past. and for the last 25 years, they’ve been preaching small market philosophies to us poor fans, just happy to have a .500% ballclub.
Yeah I think it was a magical season in general. My dad once told me he thought pAul oNeil could’ve batted 4hundred that year. I think he finished in the .370s. A lot of players and teams had great stats and records and paces but who knows how a full season would’ve played out. Barry larkin was a Star. He won a ws maybe a few years before. I always as a kid wished 1994 was completed and didn’t strike
yeah paul o’neil was awesome as a yankee. I think tony gywnn’s batting average was way up there as well that year. reds traded paul oneill to the yankees for then Roberto Kelly, who later changed his name to Robert. a talented cf’er, but not as good as oneill proved to be. barry larkin was my favorite player growing up. he won a world series in 1990 with manager lou pinella. the wire-to-wire reds, were in first place all season long. haven’t had much to cheer about since, ken Griffey jr. coming to Cincinnati was huge, but he had a lot of injuries and the pitching was terrible while he was here.
also back then, baseball was my favorite sport. I later gravitated to basketball.
