Back on Clozapine

So, when I was in the hospital I got switched to Prolixen and Depakote, but I had to go on Cogentin for the akathisia that the prolixen was causing. I was feeling wonderful mentally! Even my pdoc and therapist commented on how cheerful I was (my pdoc said it was the first time he’d seen me laugh and smile)…
Then came the pancreatitis. My primary care physician made me stop the prolixen and Cogentin because he thinks that the Cogentin may have caused the pancreatitis (but he’s still not totally sure, I have a CT scan next week).
So I’ve been restarted on the clozapine. I’m having to restart the weekly blood tests, too. I’m afraid I’m going to start wanting to eat everything in sight again and gain back all the weight I lost. At least I’m sleeping good again, which I wasn’t on the Prolixen…
Still, when I’m allowed to eat again (right now I’m still on a clear liquid diet to rest the pancreas), I’m going to track my intake and weigh and measure my foods to try and control my calorie intake).
Anybody else go through something like this or have some suggestions on how to manage food intake on clozapine?

I just cut out sugar. That sucks you have to start the blood draw schedule from the start, again.:panda_face::panda_face:

I am so glad to hear that you are back on the Clozapine again white raven because Clozapine will always be the best option for at least 1/3 of all schizophrenic patients.

I think your reply was for white Raven, not me. :t_rex::t_rex::t_rex:

Intermittent fasting, making sure you don’t keep any junk food in the house. Doing meal prep so it’s easy make healthy choices, you eat out less and order less takeaway/ubereats. Also making sure that you have fruit or other healthy snacks you like on hand. High protein & fat, focus on starchy carbs so you feel fuller for longer. High fiber so plenty of vegetables. Drinking plenty of water with each meal also.

If you get a craving for something but then force yourself to eat meal prep instead. You would be suprised how little you crave that food right after you’ve eaten a proper meal. A lot of the craving/drive to eat is hunger hormones. It’s important to remember that feeling like you want to eat is a psychological thing, you’ll learn this if you successfully pull of IF for any decent period of time.

Clean eating helps as a rule but isn’t necessary you really just want to cut out sugar and fastfood altogether and then preference wholefoods. Nothing wrong with processed food per say but mostly they are calorie dense but poor in nutritional value, junk.

Cardio/aim for 10,000 steps.

You’ll probably still struggle keeping the weight off on antipsychotics unless your doing the more extreme stuff like Intermittent fasting and exercising religiously.

Maybe ask your doctor for metformin also you are allowed to take it
