It happened in October 2015…this was 3 months after my discharge from hospital and I was on my meds… I was fully aware and it was not a dream and I definitely wasn’t tripping on any drug… I had my dinner and went to bed just like any other day but something profound happened.
I was sleeping in my room and I experienced something profound that no science or doctors can explain. I was sleeping and then I came to my senses suddenly but couldn’t comprehend as to what was happening. I cannot put it into words but I will try my best…
Up until now I thought this was my body (and me) and the outside was not me… but for the very first time I came out of my body… it was at this point I realized that I am more than my body, the “I” is something more than the body. So I came out of my body and was spreading all across the room. The “I” was spreading across the room like butter on bread… my father was sleeping right by my side and the “I” started to dissolve in him and the room… some how I was fully conscious at that time and at that point I understood that I wanted to dissolve into something. I was searching for dissolution and went into my father’s body and went into the thin air and went into the walls in my room but the “I” was being pulled back… the urge to dissolve was strong but it was becoming impossible due to some unknown reason.
So I wandered around the room and then withing a span of a micro second I wandered across the city and went to my cousin’s house which is 25 miles away from where I live and was again trying to dissolve. I don’t know why the “I” wanted to dissolve but it was happening without my permission and couldn’t help but wander.
So when I was unable in my attempt to dissolve … suddenly I was pulled up into deep outer-space, I could see some rocks floating and dark sky pitch dark sky.
In that moment I suddenly asked a question “Are we the only ones in this universe?” and then everything drew to a silence and in that moment an inverted image of “LORD SHIVA” appeared and bells (like the bells in a Hindu temple) started ringing and the image turned upright and the image became clear to me… it was an image of Lord Shiva whose hand was raised… it was like someone raises his hand to bless someone and in that moment… I fell back into my body and woke up. I just could not understand what happened and then I was trying to tell myself that this cannot be real and stuff.
Now it gets real…
So I woke up from bed it was still mid-night and I opened my laptop and opened Youtube and there was this random video of some man with a long beard called Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev who is talking about something in his video. Came to know that he is a spiritual guru who has devoted his life to “Lord Shiva” and in his videos he talks about his experience of dissolution when he was sitting on a rock near Mysuru in India. I started checking more and more and found that he also spoke about Astral Travel where the etheric body starts to travel (which I refferred to as “I”) and that he too traveled like that in his previous lives in search of a guru.
Through Sadhguru I came to know a lot about the human body and also about my experience. I could find some relevance through him.
So now the burning questions in me are :
Why and how did this happen to me?
Why did the image of “Lord Shiva” appear right after that question that I asked about us being the only ones in the universe?
How to Astral Travel again?
Has anyone here had any similar experiences?
For more understanding you can watch these videos and read these articles… Lord Shiva is also called as Adiyogi.
Yes ok, but you don’t believe it. One night I dream that I sited in front of a politician leader of India and I want to put my shoes on his table. Than he wants to stoop me. Suddenly Lord appeared in behind him and I relaxed.
OK it is a nightmare.
But after two days that leader visited to the Baba dham, a place of worship of Lord shiva in bihar.
That is a dream aku… but what i experienced was not a dream… its alright you may not be able to agree with me but I would not have shared it if it was a dream. I have had many dreams like the one you say.
I have experienced something similar, and I also used to think these experiences were spiritual. Then, I learned that they are called hypogogic hallucinations. They occur when your body is halfway between awake and asleep. Basically, your brain produces brainwaves similar to dreaming even though you’re fully conscious. The result is a full-blown dream occurring while you’re totally conscious.
After my dad died, I used to travel all over the city this way, and find him hiding in different places. I loved getting the chance to see him again, so I sought out these hallucinations, and tried to induce them. But the result was that I neglected my real life. I started doing poorly in school, and upsetting my friends. Trust me, no matter how good they make you feel, hypogogic hallucinations are not a good thing. They distract you from the goal of recovery. And, sometimes, they can turn into terrifying horror shows. This is where the term “night terrors” comes from.
I partly agree with you. While I am not hell bent on saying that what I experience is the real deal but what I would say is that “Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev” talks about these things in a much more practical manner.
In the west the concept of these things happening maybe labelled as some sort of a decease or something but in the east and especially in India these things are looked at with a sense of inner profoundness. Because India in its ancient history has invested a lot in the spiritual realm and there are much more different terminologies applied to these experiences which come from a deep knowing.
I agree with you on the fact that these things can be dangerous when experienced on the back of a drug intake but Astral Travel is totally possible if that person is well established in yoga.
If I were well established in yoga then maybe I would have experienced this from a different angle… but the fact that I am suffering from schizophrenia … people may think that what I am saying is not good or that’s what landed me in this position for which I don’t blame them.
But you should look into what Sadhguru says about Astral travel… you may get a different perspective on it.
One question… did you always experience them while you were sleeping?
No, I did not always experience them when I was going to sleep or waking up. Sometimes, I was so sleep-deprived that they happened in the middle of the day.
If you choose to believe it is spiritual in nature, that is your right. But we don’t allow religious discussions on here, because they are very triggering to some folks. So if you want advice on how to stop hypogogic hallucinations, we can help you. But if you want to discuss astral projection, you’ll have to do that on another site. We have to stay firmly rooted in proveable facts here.
It only happened once to me. After that it never happened again. Its alright I don’t want to defend my experience in anyway. I take your point… if you want to close this thread then by all means… go ahead.
