I posted that I take Vyvanse and have for a few years. I used to take armodafinil (Nuvigil) before I took Vyvanse. Has anyone taken that?

Would that be a safer drug for someone with sz instead of a stimulant medication? I will ask my Dr of course. I am just seeing if anyone has any experience with it.

Modafinil is not as effective for adhd as vyvanse. One pdoc wanted me on it but later changed her mind. She wanted to prescribe it for narcolepsy as I had that.

Modafinil has a very different subjective experience and has a long half life. It works as an antinarcolepsy drug but always interfered with my sleep. If you sleep well on amphetamines you might not find this to be the case. Modafinil should be safer in theory. Mainly because it is less dopaminergic but also less effective for adhd so YMMV

I’ve never been on it, but I know a bit about it. As @AmICrazyYet mentioned, it’s safer than amphetamines as it isn’t as intense on the dopamine front. The effects won’t be as pronounced, but it sounds like something that can be effective in some cases. I think it’s worth talking to your doctor about for sure.

I’ve never used more then 200mg that what I started with. I’ve frequently used small dosage from 12.5-50mg. Never had psychosis from it. I just didn’t sleep well on it so it didn’t have a good effect on me. I prefer ritalin due to the short duration half life where I’ll eat between 1.25-5mg. These are powerful drugs you don’t need that much especially in schizophrenia.

I’ve definitely experienced bits and pieces of wavy drug induced psychosis with the ritalin but that was back when I taking 15mg ritalin and 150/300mg Bupropion combined. I generally wouldn’t recommend ritalin since in normal prescribed dosages it has a decent propensity for psychosis. Studies show that Amphetamines is more likely to cause drug induced psychosis. Vyvance being long acting a rate limited by ezymatic degradation will help. Still hard to tell whether the mechanism of action in Amphetamines is driving psychosis or the potency. Again YMMV with insight, drug cocktail, inate biology, liver metabolism, severity of condition ect.

I have a friend with SCZ who swears by Modafinil but they are also on dual APs and seroquel which is a very heavy sedative
