Aripiprazole

  1. Is anyone successfully managing schizophrenia while on aripiprazole?
  2. What are effective strategies for managing restlessness, restless legs, and sleep disturbances associated with aripiprazole?

Thanks in advance to the community members.

I want to suggest discussing all of this with a doctor first, but I do have my own perspective on it.

At one point, aripiprazole helped me “rise from the ashes”—I started thinking a bit more clearly and rebuilding my life.

There were side effects, including the ones you mentioned, like constant anxiety, etc. I’m not even sure if a lower dose significantly reduced it for me. All these medications, antipsychotics, have side effects—though, of course, not everyone experiences them.

For me, cariprazine is a better option, but aripiprazole can work wonders for those it suits.

I’m on 15mg a day and it’s working out fine.

Either go down the benzo route like I did for a year, or try the following supplements :

https://www.iherb.com/pr/source-naturals-broccoli-sprouts-extract-250-mg-60-tablets-125-mg-per-tablet/132858

https://www.iherb.com/pr/doctor-s-best-l-theanine-150-mg-90-veggie-caps/12959

Thanks to those supplements I don’t need benzos.

Also watch your caffeine and nicotine intake. Try to cut them down or out.

I wake up once every night and it’s quite hard to fall back asleep, takes some time… I can’t memorise things but that’s pretty much it. I think you have to try to live with this shi7

I’ve been mood cycling as of late.
My doctor raised my Depakote dose to 1500mg and now I’m eating everything in sight!
Pretty recently she lowered my risperidone dose from 4mg to 3mg.
I think that this could be the reason why I’m cycling now.
Doses above 3mg of Risperdal turn me into a zombie plus it will worsen my TD symptoms.
Instead I’m going to ask her to lower my Depakote dose and raise my Abilify dose from 2mg to 5mg.
I’m hoping this adjustment will stabilize my erratic moods.

I had a bad reaction to Abilify. Mostly due to the impulsive side effects, making me be addicted to many self-medications. It stopped my positive symptoms for a little while, but they eventually came back.

Its the best antipsychotic for me that ive tried. I cant handle being sedated and brain dead like i was on some other ap meds and i would just abruptly stop if i was on those. Aripiprazole still sucks but it doesnt completely take the light out of my eyes like other meds. It is what it is i guess.

I have been successfully managing my illness on this med for 15 years. I went off it once though, with advice from he doc but it didn’t work. I have been back on it for the past 5 years.

I’m on Abilify 20mg and I sleep at least 9 hours every night. I don’t have restless leg syndrome. I work part-time. Everyone is different.

Aripiprazole resurrected me from the ashes in the past, using your words. I am considering a change from paliperidone to aripiprazole, but I am afraid of the gambling addiction it may cause. I remember it was Christmas; I was not exactly relapsing, but I spent all my available money on the lottery.

Thanks for all the kind replies.

I can mention that I was never involved in gambling or anything like that. It was kind of unconscious.

Besides, I have a huge concern about tardive dyskinesia.

I was on Abilify tablet form for about a year or more. It was a mistake that lead to me using street drugs. I’m now on Abilify maintena that’s an injection and olanzapine. I am still paranoid as hell and think that my dad is out to get me or control my life. Which he is not it’s just a delusional and like I said paranoid thoughts. I honestly wished they would form 1 me but they don’t seem to want to. Multiple trys to be admitted the local hospitals and clinics won’t help. 400mg Abilify and 10 mg olanzapine. When I was on Abilify alone I did alot of social damage to my life. Like big time damage. Lost my job, had vision problems with my eye going lazy. Had a relationship with a crazy ■■■■■…lost my license from driving under the Influence of drugs. The list just goes on and on. It masked the fact that I was delusional and paranoid. Just made me feel alright with being psychotic. Constant constant problems. I was threatened family members and people of the general public I didn’t even know. Contacting people from other countries for weird reasons. I was insane. If I were you stick to olanzapine. That’s the first drug they put me on and the one that worked best for all my symptoms.

Yea I’m on 5mg a day and doing well

I like Abilify. It takes away all my fears in life. But not my frustrations of course.

I had hyper sexuality from abilify and had to discontinue it.

I guess to each their own. Some people need more than one AP.

Abilify is slower to kick in for me, it takes a while for all my delusions to vanish. I never relapsed while on it. I did relapse after stopping treatment on my own though. Lesson learnt.
