Are seizures like a really bad body cramp? Have any of you had one?

When I had mine I was walking then boom I wake up with my dad cradling my head. I was extremely disoriented and have no memory of it and the same when my sister had hers due to epilepsy.

It sounds like you may be referring to a dystonic reaction to your meds. I would get them in my face and neck. Basically my muscles would tense up and seize, resulting in painful grimacing and my neck getting stuck at weird angles. I was unable to straighten or relax these muscles when it happened and it was both painful and embarrassing.
Sometimes I would end up at the ER, where they would give me a shot of Benedryl or a generic equivalent.
I found that taking 50 mg twice a day took care of it, with a PRN dose if I noticed the muscles starting to tense up.

Is that the same as TD?

I don’t think so. From what I gather, TD is more repetitive uncontrolled movement of extremities and tongue. Dystonic reactions are more like the muscles in my face and neck seizing up, kinda like when you get a Charley horse in your legs. The muscles would tighten, and I would grimace and my head would kinda stick out as the neck muscles stiffened.
I think it’s more of an extra pyramidal symptom, kinda like stiff muscles.

That sounds like what I had whiplash. My neck became stuff and tighter and tighter Throughout the day until my head was sort of stuck out and angled oddly and I couldn’t move.
I’m sorry you have to experience that All the time. :frowning:

When they happen to me, my entire body will shake and all of my muscles tense up. It’s like one minute you’re doing something and then next thing you know someone is waking you up and helping you off the floor.

My jaws always hurt after a seizure because of the muscles clenching. I wouldn’t say it’s a body cramp, though. Thankfully I haven’t had one in almost two months. I have to take medication for it (depakote). It also happens to be a mood stabilizer.

No problems with it so far.

From what I’ve read there are different types like for example petit mal and grand mal. you could do an internet search about them.

When I had mine it was my body shaking violently and you can’t control any muscle movements. It was a terrible experience.

Thanks, this post confirmed that what I though may have been a seizure was not.
Recently I was ambulance from work, with a panic attack.
Everything went white, my whole body went completely stiff and my hands were stuck in claws. I couldn’t remember anything but white and I could hear everything around me, but couldn’t see. Took a long time for me to come back.
