Are planning skills affected by schizophrenia?

im trying to stick to a meal plan and it’s absolutely impossible to plan all the time… i can do it for a few days…
then it falls apart
i can usually do things like shop for the week and get things out of the fridge as i feel like it
but sticking to a plan and planning seems impossible
is this a thing for schizophrenia?

It’s definitely a problem for me.As is organising.

What helps for me is to put everything in my calendar. That being said I am not a very organized person.

I feel like I’m doomed to failure with meal planning I’m trying to do meal planning with a food buddy, Where I count myself accountable to them by what I’ve planned but it’s really not working

Yeah I’m talking about food planning I’m not sure if it’s a schizophrenia thing or Because I’m a compulsive overeater thing

I think it’s for anyone hard to stick to meal planning for a long period. Most people are overweight anyway

In the notes section of my phone, I plan out my meals for the week. Then I create a grocery list in an app on my phone. Then I use MyFitnessPal to enter my meals each day to figure out how much I can eat and stay within calories

I’m not sure but concentration issues are a real thing with SZ…maybe it’s just difficult to concentrate enough to always choose a balanced meal plan…takes a bit of thinking and maybe you’re just not up to it sometimes…sounds normal with SZ

If your thinking is bad planning can be hard.
Writing in a phone calendar is pretty easy and good i think.

that’s pretty amazing xx don’t think i have that kind of brain i don’t know how you do it
do you cook from scratch? what kind of meals do you have?
if you do cook from scratch…? what do you do if your plans change or if you can’t face cooking? do you batch cook a bit?
to follow the kind of diet im trying to follow means cooking at least 2h a day and i don’t know how to figure in days when i can’t face cooking or even not being able to face the healthiest of foods
i hope my college can help me over time
been gaining weight
im supposed to be abstinent from overeating

I cook from scratch on some and not on others. I always have something simple like chicken breasts and hot dogs on hand in case I don’t feel like cooking. Plus, once a week we have pizza.

The old pen and notepad helps me out a lot. I write down stuff I need to do. I also have a alarm clock on my watch that I use sometimes if there is specific things I need to remember at a given time.

Yes they are affected by sz, my pdoc told me sz can cause cognitive decline and thats what I read online too.

The planning skills i read they are executive function that take place in the prefrontal cortex of the frontal lobe in the brain. Apparently this dysfunction is caused by low dopamine aka negative symptoms.

Planning skills are definitely affected by Schizophrenia…
My Fiance has to schedule and plan everything for me or I’d be a total confused wreck.

I get overwhelmed easily if I have to plan anything. I struggle with it, as well, as far as being unorganized.

That hits the nail on the head.

I can’t plan anything.

I never know what kind of day I’m going to wake up to and just kind of roll with it when I wake up.

The only thing I can plan for is therapy and psychiatrist appointments.

I use tech to stay organised. I am good at routines and planning.
