Hi, I graduated with a BSc in computer science in December and wanted to hear your opinions and experiences about disclosing your DX in your job application or to your employer. I live in New Zealand.
Thanks in advance.
Congrats on the BSc in ComSci.
Honesty is the best policy IMHO. If they understand that you might need to reduce your hours in the future then you can negotiate. It all depends on how bad your sz is.
If you studied full time you might be able to handle full time work in which case go for it.
NZ seems like a progressive and forgiving place (I live in Aus).
Good luck.
I use to work here in nyc ny usa for the office of Nz
embassy. i was a computer technical consultant.
it is good to let your employer slowly , but up front know you have mental issues, and they will work with you most of time.
Thank you very much
I did not disclose the issue but later I eventually informed my manager after I got the job in few months time. I think there would be a slot to fill in the application. I felt I should have never said it in any of the places I worked. Because its not the people, it me who start making things up.
Never disclose DX in Asia, the stigma is quite real from my experience
If New Zealand has laws like we do here in the UK, then companies have to be diverse, and accept disability.
This is usually done here by HR knowing about the Dx, but the hiring managers etc not knowing.
I would only disclose it if you think you might have relapses.
If not, then there is little point in telling them at all
Congratulations on completing the degree.
