Anyone living in a group home/considering moving into one?

I signed up for housing. I can either get my own apartment with supports or a group home with varying supports. I am really nervous about living with other people I don’t know. I have major paranoia around other people and only choose to interact with certain folks.

I might try clozapine because my doctor suggested it and it might help. If it does, I’ll probably be more open to trying out the group home because honestly, I have a hard time being on my own. I could use the company.

Personal experience with group homes? Especially if you had a hard time adjusting at first.

Thankyou

I used to live in one for two years.
It was hard at first, I cried a lot and didn’t really come out of my room much, but once I got accostumed to the routines and learned that the people there, however strange they might be, were going through things similar to me, and that they all (staff and other occupants) meant well, I calmed down.

It’s going to be hard at first, but it’s going to be easier after a month or so, depending on how long it takes to get used to new routines and people.

I would never live in a group home for MI people.

I also would like to add that after a while, I learned to love the company and the fact that there were (almost) always someone to talk to if I needed it, or if I just didn’t want to be alone.

Why did you move out? @Berru

how come?

After a while, my condition and overall mental ability improved, until I was well enough to live on my own.

I lived in a group home for a while and hated it. Just found it really stressful

I’m currently having a hard time adjusting to Supportive Housing.
I choose to live in my parents home.

You will do fine @MissJennyJen.
It takes time to adjust.
