When I was a kid in the sixties they used to have big tanks with a dozen or so tiny turtles living in it in drugstores. You could reach in and grab one to buy for a pet or just look at. They were only 4 or 5 inches long. They cost about a dollar or something. You never see these anymore because apparently these little turtles spread disease.

I once thought of keeping one but it’d be too much work and maintenance so I gave that up. I bought books on tortoises and learnt alot about them and really wanted to keep.

I have chronic fatigue and decided not to keep any pets.

They are not a lot of trouble themselves.

Now the enclosure and equipment needed by them is another story.

Besides being large enough, they take special lights. If we dont get them the lights their shells will deform.

Then there is heat and humidity which takes other equipment.

A full set up is pretty exspensive.

They arent cheap!

@anon48059102 my man is today holiday from job…!!! Are u still continuing ur job thats great…!!!

Neighbors had a tortoise. Poor thing was not properly taken care of, lived in a baby pool in their garage. It ran away…twice…the second time they never found it. Surprising considering it was a GIANT tortoise like a desert tortoise.

We had some in the animal science camp I worked at as well. I found them to be pretty boring honestly.

I think that’s more common with water turtles. Simply wash your hands after handling them and you’re fine.
