Anyone feel their life is too vanilla?

It has been over a year since this illness started and not one day have I slept late. I take meds nightly. I never use my cell phone on the road. I never smoke. I live with my parents and they care for my life quite a bit. I have friends and a job and that gives me a little more freedom. But I feel like one of those people who never cheat on their diet. I take care not to scare or trigger myself or wear myself out after a day of work. I feel like a grandma… Sometimes I see people at support group who live with friends and seem so free. I envy them a little sometimes. Do you feel your life has become too vanilla or do you live by your own rules?

Sometimes, I get nostalgic for my reckless, adventurous life. But I am about a million times more comfortable with myself now than I was back then. I used to have so many adventures to distract myself from the fact that I hated myself and had zero inner peace.

My life is not quite vanilla but not quite adventurous either. The most reckless and adventurous thing I do these days is smoke weed.

Sounds more like stuck than free to me.

I live by my own rules. Which happen to be pretty vanilla. But I’m happy.

My life is more “vainillia” than yours, I never smoke, drink alcohol, take drugs or have sex. I dont have girlfriend and I live with my parents, all I do is study, exercise a little bit and sleep

im not involved in most of the cool things other people my age are, like partying and drinking on the weekends. like you i live off campus with my parents. unlike you i dont have a job or a routine.

you should be happy you don’t abuse any substances, so many szs fall down that hole. theres always threads on here with people supporting others who are addicted to this or that. just be happy youre productive, thats my idea of being free. and youre dating too! those are big accomplishments for someone with the illness.

I see a lot of people of my age getting fun in parties smoking weed and having lots of friends while Im here doing nothing! If this is my life now I dont want to imagine when 40 years old…and I cant even enjoy good things because my meds dont let me! Jeez!!!

There are in fact quite a few people at support group who make “money doesn’t buy happiness” seem quite true. They live in shelters but they look truly happy and unapologetic. There are others who hate their situation too though. Idk anyone have any ideas how to spice it up a little? Without turning to drugs and alcohol.

Only you can answer that question, @anon62973308, cause you know (or should know) yourself best !!

But some possible hints:

  1. Do you still have a boyfriend? If you do, and if it’s serious, have you two discussed moving in together? If you don’t, what’s keeping you from exploring this direction?
  2. How much free (leisure) time do you really have? You could join an amateur music band, a local theatre troupe, something artistic anyway. These guys usually know a thing or two about having fun.
  3. If you’ve got some extra cash and a mind for arithmetics you could start trading on the forex or something fancier like cryptocurrency. It might keep you on your toes a lil bit

My life is the most boring life you can imagine. It’s worse than watching paint dry. Some days I long for insanity.

Yeah, I get that grass is greener sensation when I try and compare my life to others. They all seem to be hooking up and carrying on and partying with friends and whatnot, and here I am like an infant. The thing is, if and when I crawled out of my hobbit hole, I’d probably miss it before long.

You should do it, with that suit @anon9798425 uploaded. Nobody will know who you are, you’ll be like a superhero. They can call you the piano tickling tuna.
