Anyone else think living forever may be possible?

Yeah this is a strange one, but I go through phases where I think we might be able to live forever under the right circumstances.

No, DNA breaks down over time.

Possible, but not probable. It won’t be allowed except for a select few as it will not be sustainable if everyone lives.

But I mean trees can live thousands of years and humans only around 100 at most?

The math is there but idk. Only kooky billionaires want to live forever. I think it may be possible in the future to change dna or reverse aging.

Trees have meristems.

@shutterbug yeah and humans have doctors, scientists, dreams and goals. Idk seems like a scam dying so young.

I think of the whole thing as “the right to be forgotten” a moral question on all the social sites with keeping your written words on a hard drive somewhere.

I want to die when I’m ready.

Put differently:

I will never download my consciousness to something.

For all the reasons I can think of; and especially for the ones I cannot.

Our systems are more complex than a tree’s.

I used to think they would solve the issue of death by the time I was old. This was back in my late teens and 20’s. It was a pipe dream. I’m going to die sometime. Probably within the next 20 years. The truth can be hard to swallow. I was in such denial I thought science would be so advanced by the time I was 70 that they would be able to store me on a computer or biologically reverse aging. It didnt happen.

Even if it did happen , we dont have room for all the people to live forever. We would need to expand and colonize all over the place for it to be feasible. Otherwise everyone would be fighting and killing each other over resources and dying that way instead of (relatively) peacefully of old age.

@Bowens yeah that was well put. It’s such a strong delusion for me though at times. Maybe cause I feel I was cheated out of the life I did have and if we could live forever it would give some time to actually enjoy life. Oh well. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think consciousness is eternal.

That is a good point

Got me thinking if we were smart enough to reverse us biologically we could find new ways for water and food and living on areas like the dessert or even in the ocean

And we already have thought of finding a new inhabital planet and ways to get there

we would also get into critical areas of even altering genes to eliminate diseases and even behavior like killing

we also would have to find ways to stop or deal with natural disasters even asteroids hitting the earth again

I don’t want to live forever, I’m interested in what happens after we die.

In all honesty I would hate, hate, hate to live forever - billionaire or not.

I mean everyone needs a rest eventually?

I don’t think so. Biologically we are always destined to die.

@el_Jimbobbio I mean under life’s current circumstances living forever would def not be wanted. But just like how someone said, believing consciousness lives forever.

I think that under better circumstances it’d be worth it just how there might be life after death. If there is I think death just seems unnecessary.

@anon8411913 facts. I wish biologically I didn’t have this delusion.

I believe in eternal life…personal spirituality.
