Anyone else have Tourette's?

I was diagnosed with Tourette’s even before schizophrenia. To be honest, I’d take SZ over TS any day. At least SZ is an internal struggle and I can keep it to myself. Because of my Tourette’s, I twitch a lot. I have a head twitch that makes it look like I’m nodding, I scrunch my face up, I blink excessively, I touch my canine teeth together repeatedly, I touch my fingers together, I curl my toes, I make little grunting noises, and I inhale sharply over and over like a rabbit sniffing. It’s hell. EVERYONE I know has commented at one point or another, some openly laugh at me, some make fun of me. I grew up being called “twitchy” and “squirrel.” And the worst part is that it’s physically painful. Because of my head jerk, my neck and shoulders are in constant pain and I have tension migraines at least 3 times a week. I can’t stand it anymore. My state doesn’t even give medical marijuana for it, which there has been proof that weed helps Tourette’s. I can’t take medicine for it because doctors have all told me that all existing meds are to make severely affected people come down to the severity level I’m at. I just don’t know what to do. I’d never actually hurt myself but sometimes I wish I could blow my brains out because of my Tourette’s. If anyone else has TS, what do you do to help manage it? I’m desperate and none of my doctors are helping

Sorry you struggle w/ tourette’s kenny.

I wish I could help but I know nothing about tourette’s other than the unrealistic depictions that are seen in the media.

Wasn’t there a south park episode about tourettes?

I was curious if you found it offensive or funny?

Judging by your name I’m guessing you’re a south park fan :stuck_out_tongue:

I have tourette’s. The medicin for it is…exciting drums…antipsychotics!

I feel for you that you struggle with Tourette’s. That’s got to be tough. I have my own issues that make me stand out and it sucks.

Haha I love South Park and I think there was an episode about it but I’m blanking on which one it was

I wish I could take meds

I’m sorry to hear that you have Tourette’s. I’ve seen some documentaries and read about it, I know that it’s not fun- and the meds are tranquilizers like for scz.

Really sorry to hear that. But you are strong! You even have a great sense of humor with your username. It made me lol when I saw it.

And in the pics of ourselves thread you look so healthy!

Have you tried seeing a therapist? I’m curious- I work in therapy research and you might benefit from seeing one. Or you might not- but I think you won’t benefit for sure if you don’t give it a shot.

Thank you  I’m glad I look like I have it all together, and i love when people get my username hahaha I do see a therapist, but she’s not a cognitive or occupational therapist so all I do when I’m there is talk about what’s going on in my life. I used to see an occupational therapist back in elementary school all the time, but once I was in middle school, they decided I didn’t need it. So now I don’t know where to go to try and get rid of my twitching

You should see a clinical psychologist- they specialize in things like Tourette’s

I’ll look one up and see who I can find, thanks

Piles of research show that sz pts tend to get “better” when they…

  1. Get a copy of this book and read it and have their families read it, as well.
  2. Get properly diagnosed by a board-certified psychopharmacologist who specializes in psychotic disorders. One can find them at… and
  3. Work with that “psychiatrist” (or “p-doc”) to develop a medication formula that stabilizes their symptoms sufficiently so that they can tackle the psychotherapy that will disentangle their thinking.
  4. The best of the psychotherapies for that currently include…
    DBT –
    MBSR –
    MBCT -
    ACT –
    10 StEP –
  5. the even newer somatic psychotherapies like…
    MBBT –
    SEPT –
    SMPT –
  6. or standard CBTs, like…
    REBT –
    Schematherapy –
    Learned Optimism –
    Standard CBT –
  7. If you/she/he needs a professional intervention to get through treatment resistance, tell me where you live, and I will get back to you with leads to those services.
  8. Look into the RAISE Project at
