I would say “Podria ser libre.” is the proper way to say “I might be free.”

“Yo diría, " Podria ser libre” would reflect the conditional tense in the decir (I would say=diría )and the conditional tense to say diría= I might say too?

I’m not quite sure. Spanish and English have a few things that are backwards and forwards. I forgot the example I was told at the moment.

Yeah. Poder is like can. Quarter is like want and deber is like should. On a side note poder is also power. Deber can also be like owes.

My book translates pudiera as I might. podria as I could. but it is wrong. It seems reversed for these three verbs.

Hence, I could be free= pudiera ser libre. is that how you translate it?

And supiera= I might know ( as a regular subjunctive imperfect)?

Yes for “could be free”. “Pudiera ser libre.”

Supiera is close to “I might know.” There is also sabria from saber. Which is like knew or know.

Supiera is more proper I would say. When my dad comes back I’ll be sure to ask him. He speaks old timey proper Spanish. I speak proper Spanish too but he knows some old formal words that are no longer used. He might have some input to share.

It might be a bit old school. Most people nowadays speak Spanish a little differently than before. Back in the day it was a little more proper now there’s mor3 slang and strange terms. At least in some parts in Mexico. Not to mention the fact that many people born in the U.S. speak Spanish a little… off. Props to them for learning Spanish though. What you’re asking is more on a collegiate level or scholar level of Spanish! Don’t worry. Your book might be a little off but you seem to be learning proper Spanish.

Pudiera is not completely wrong it just seems a little off in that particular sentence.

Maybe if you used it in a a longer sentence, to add more context, I could see it clearer, I would need to know precisely what you want to say, also, take into account that around 20 countries in the world use Spanish as first languaje so it might vary.
