I have been trying to translate “I might be free”.
I thought it was “Pudiera ser libre”, but google translate says “podria ser libre”= I might be free." I thought that meant "I would/could be free
It can’t be correct. Google translate has mixed the imperfect subjunctive with the conditional, am I right?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Am Dominican and fluent in Spanish but there different ways you can say it but " podria ser libre " is how I would say it

Thanks.
That is pretty weird though. Yo podria ser libre is definitely a conditional.
Perhaps, it is a unwritten rule that when poder and ser are used together it translates to “I might” ???
Actually your right poder would be might podria would be could lol

what would you say pudiera ser libre would translate as then?
But like if we were having a conversation I would know what you trying to say but technically your rite poder is could
lol
That has mixed up the technical translations. What you say is what googlle translate says, but technically it is wrong.
It has taken on a colloquial meaning.

I know this thread isn’t about mental illness, but when I got sick in high school, I could not learn it any more for the life of me, and the phrases, grammar, etc that I did learn b4, was gone. Out the window.
When I went to community college I tried to be slick and take Spanish the teacher said I couldn’t take the class she recommended German wish I would’ve stayed in school I would’ve have learn German but I dropped out before I could start it
Really, Spanish teachers shouldn’t have told you what to do, I would have been mad. Ya, you had an advantage, but there is always something to learn. Higher education frustrates me.
@Etch-A-Sketch It is never too late to go back!
@Winterblues Life is not over yet, you could still learn and remember it all. Time can be your friend, take it from an old timer of 46. Diagnosed at 22 at uni, i managed to finish my degree a year later.
Hang in there…
