I had to wait 1.5 yrs to get it free on the NHS, but we ended up doing schema therapy after a few sessions instead!

I found it beneficial and found that with that and lots of volunteering I have a more fore filled life! Although I still have some negative symptoms and find it hard to get up in the morning.

is there any improvement in overall motivation for studies, job etc? after CBT

I think it depends on the person giving you cognitive behavioral therapy. I had one therapist who was amazing and really empathetic. I felt safe and really flourished under her. The other five or however other CBT therapists weren’t much of a help.

If it were me, and I had to commit to 160 every month (or is it every session?) I would ask a lot of questions to the therapist, about their schooling, about their thoughts on schizophrenia, everything, before I shell out 160 for talk therapy.

There are some that do sliding scale. Are you in the united states? do you have obama care? I found several CBT therapists through the public health care listings that stated they accepted low-income health care plans. Just a thought…

im from india …here its 20000 rupees for total sessions thats almost 300 us dollars…so cbt consist of only talking seesions?..please tell me more about cbt

Yes it’s effective.

I remember this site: http://www.getselfhelp.co.uk/cbt.htm

Click on the next button and it will take you through a self help CBT course.

Their are handouts on their old site that you might find helpful, but you might have to do some digging!

As for all therapies, you might find it a bit washy washy so make sure your in the mood before starting!

I have found that the cost of a doctor can be inversely proportional to their helpfulness.

Interesting. I signed up, seems really basic and simple. Let’s see if it helps on the long run. Thanks for sharing

for my CBT i’m required to fill in time tables of daily activities and write down any negative/positive thoughts and behaviours to be discussed for the next session… while i enjoy discussing these things its kind of annoying to do the timetables… but my psychologist is a nice person and friend to me.

CBT is very useful in my opinion. You need to be patient and trust your therapist very much, share with him anything that is bothering you and make an effort to improve and change yourself, everyday.

Hi @leo, I also want to try CBT. I hope it’s helpful. I’m really fragile right now. When I go out I wish for better thoughts. What I think would be helpful is to be part of a group and have a CBT therapist to guide you being outside and with large crowds.
