What is known about brain changes (especially damage) due to psychosis and also due to antipsychotics? No pdoc will speak to me about this and I’m bursting with questions. It feels like I’m damned whichever way i choose at this point.
I’m pretty sure that there can be some brain damage with psychosis but the brain repairs itself after some time.
Antipsychotics cause changes in the brain but they can be seen as protective from psychosis
Cortical thinning has been documented. However it is unclear how this impacts overall brain function.
I’m more concerned about lingering sz symptoms, in my case there are no more positives which is awesome. But there are still some negative symptoms and cognitive such as apathy or decreased focus. My memory has taken a blow too.
The cognitives can be fought with supplements, aerobic exercise and by keeping an active mind - doing crossword puzzles, sudoku, math drills, journaling, debating etc.
Andrey, you’re smart!
Thanks Jacob, I’ve read a lot about this illness, especially between 2014-2018. I’m not up to date with the latest findings though. I focus on myself, trying to avoid self-pity and defeatism. It’s bloody hard…
