Analyse this behaviour please

I had a really good session with my counsellor today. Felt noticeably less stressed afterwards.

One thing I talked about was how when I was a child/young teen my dad used to get really close to my face and insult/tease me while wearing a big grin.

I never understood why he was doing it. It felt intimidating but I just tried to smile back politely.

My counsellor was saying maybe it was an exercise of control.
What do you think?

I have no idea - I’m not a psychologist. I also live under a couch and have an ankle fetish. I’m probably not the best person to give guidance.

My step dad used to goad me too.

As I got older, he didn’t get violent anymore

Definitely controlling behaviour IMO
