Amisulpride

Hello,

Can anyone share their experience on Amisulpride and whether it was good for cognitive dysfunction?

I think @Joker was on it.

I was the best I have been for a long time on Amisulpride 800mg

That was with some supports in place, mainly a supportive employer

As with anything, things change and my supportive employer disappeared just before a pandemic, and I was then left without support from the healthcare system due to Covid

Basically it was a good med, but importantly, as with any med it can only go so far and you need the rest of it to align to be well.

Overall apart from raised prolactin, side effects on 800mg were negligible and I got my life back for the most part.

However, my circumstances got in the way, and they blamed my anxiety on untreated psychosis, then the dose went to 1.2g. QTC prolongation proved a risk they didn’t want to take, and they took me off it

Since coming off Amisulpride, everything has been turbulent with being on 4 meds this year so far

I would recommend it to anyone, but it won’t be a miracle drug, however it treats symptoms well and I had minimal side effects

Thanks. Did it raise prolactin on a lower dose as well?

Yep the prolactin was high, but not dangerous

I was still concerned about it, so they added 5mg Abilify

That did nothing to lower it

Interestingly Abilify lowers my prolactin by a great amount. I take Abilify and I get a prolactin score of about 1-2 if it should be 10.

By the way did you have issues with cognition? And, did Amisulpride ameliorate them?

I can’t speak for the early stages of my illness as I had no insight, but my cognition has gotten much worse recently since being taken off it

The medications they have put me on since have not served me well.

But you will have to see if this option works for you, as we’re all different

I am on Haldol and my cognition is dead. I am thinking of switching to Amisulpride for that reason.

Switching meds is messy, but we wouldn’t do it unless we can see prospect of a better future - rather than being stuck on something that just doesn’t work for you

My cognition has greatly improved since getting off atypicasl and only on one neuroleptic mono treatment.

I think they work but the important question is being functional with minimal side effects. If the cognitive dysfunction is very strong, it is hard to live your life the way you want it. For instance, if I can’t concentrate, I can’t make money, and in the long-term I have a terrible future…and stress will compound if the circumstances worsen, and if the stress compounds, the medications will lose efficacy.

I take amisulpride at a low dose 200mg a day ad it keeps things at bay and i function pretty well, i am a little hazy but i think its the same with all meds, mostly a great med for me, idk about prolactin but yeah i am very happy with it. Thing is its different for everyone so you may not react to it like i do same with any meds, everyone is different.

Do you have hyperprolactimia/sexual dysfunction?

it still works if that’s what you mean but its not as easy to get and idk its difficult to maintain, i think if i had sex with a lady she would be a bit disappointed that’s why i would like to meet a woman who is a lot more understanding in that regard.

I’m on 500mg amisulpride and it’s a marvellous med. I’ve been on it for nine years and it’s the best ap for me. None others taken alone could help as well as it could. I’m on 4mg haloperidol as well, for additional treatment for homicidal thoughts and aggressive feelings. Together they help a lot.

Amisulpride has raised my prolactin and I’m sexually lacking but otherwise no side effects.

Wether you choose to get treated with neuroleptics or atypical antipsychotics there will allways be gains and loses. But congnitive gains can only be done by lowering the dose or switching to a meds that works pro cognitive:

Is weight gain an issue with this med?

not with me but i take a very low dose, i think it might say on the side effects, if you type in to the search engine side effects and amisulpride you should get some information
